I'm a retired public school teacher - your post is fallacious, ill-informed, insulting, and I doubt you'd last a year as a public school teacher.

actually it was that feeble minded Reagan and his uneducated education czar which hacked our highly effective educaitonal system to pieces, turning it over to the testing and textbook profiteers and the insane charter schools and home schoolers

the BUsh's including that mediocre boy george and his NONeducational SPelling etc.
who finished it off with NCLB

i'm sure it's a number of things. But IMO the scores don't really matter in terms of the country's success. All you really need are a small percentages of the population that make the difference that leads to progress. And those people are inspired by their own talents and their fascination with discovery.

You are confused. The Act was authored by Kennedy.

Hey, RichDA. You've got a point. The Japanese outscore us in everything too. One BIG difference is that in their school systems, if a student doesn't "cut the muster" they are cut from the ranks. I am all for that. Kids who are not motivated to do well in school are a drag on the whole system. They should be weeded out and sent to vocational schools where they can learn a useful trade. A military career would do wonders for their self-motivation too. Those who opt out of those options--just send them to China.

Leonard,
I'm not criticizing. I could very well be wrong, I'm not a China expert. Those are just my observations.

RichDA says:
"Another critical advantage for Apple was that China provided engineers at a scale the United States could not match. Apple's executives had estimated that about 8,700 industrial engineers were needed to oversee and guide the 200,000 assembly-line workers eventually involved in manufacturing iPhones. The company's analysts had forecast it would take as long as nine months to find that many qualified engineers in the United States.

In China, it took 15 days."

I agree, it took relatively few innovators in the US to lead to China's success.

In fact, that has been the effect. But then boy george never was much of a student himself

his family made sure he did NOT get left behind though

How To Fix 'No Child'
By Edward M. Kennedy

so why did he himself say it needs fixing, when you cannot fix that boy george era frankenstein monster which has destroyed our schools nationwide, anymore than we can fix the military mess that AWOL draft dodger put us in to draft dodger Dick Cheney's enormous fun and profit

DEEZUS says:
seriously, you're wrong. Ted Kennedy did help author it. He, like most people on the hill, had zero experience working in education, but that doesn't stop them from thinking they can fix it.

<Have the Dem's and the Teachers's Union destoryed education in America?>

You mean Education unions. That's a taxpayer funded jobs program. Education & teaching have nothing in common.

DEEZUS says:
please explain how education and teaching have nothing in common.

Teaching results in learning. Learning is not occurring according to every known accountability standard (scores, dropout rates, compared to the world, etc). Dumb and getting dumber is the product of not teaching and that's what we have. Education is an afterglow of learning.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 20, 2012, 7:05:36 PM PDT
DEEZUS says:
Teaching only results in learning if the student wants to learn something. You can't FORCE learning on someone.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 20, 2012, 7:06:02 PM PDT
How old are you? I just ask because the word "Dems" is not possessive, so there's no apostrophe. "Teacher's" is possessive, so you do need an apostrophe for that word. However there is no such word as "Teachers's." I wanted to know your age, so that I could decide which party to blame for your lack of education in the English language.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 20, 2012, 7:07:54 PM PDT
"Teaching results in learning." Clearly you've never been or met a teacher.

"Education is an afterglow of learning." Lord knows how to deconstruct this sentence!
