Since I didn't go thru all 224 posts I don't know if these have
been mentioned. All songs about death bugged me. Even Edwin Starr's
"War", with his mention of the undertaker bothered me. I remember
buying Alice Cooper's "Billion Dollar Babies", when I heard "I Love
The Dead" that was all she wrote, I gave it away:
I love the dead before they're cold
Their blueing flesh for me to hold
Cadaver eyes upon me see...
The first time I heard Chris Rea's "The Road To Hell" it was about
one in the morning, I was in the middle of nowhere in Indiana and
they played the complete version. That definitely creeped me out.
There is one other song that is so simple & innocent yet it bothers
me every time I hear it still. I think it was called "The Three Bells" by The Browns. It starts with the chapel bells ringing
because little Jimmy Brown was born, they are rung again because
Jimmy is getting married, and they finally ring on a cloudy
morning because Jimmy Brown has passed away.
There sure were a lot of teenage tragedy songs out in the '50's
and early '60's.
