Is Ritchie an Idiot or a stone-cold Genius? Or a combination of the two?

Best guitarist of all time. I guess that's enough to call him a genius.

S.M. has it right. He's a jerk, not an idiot. Or he's not a jerk at all, just not good with people. So, genius it is. I just hope he goes rock again some day.

Genius with a horrible attitude problem. How many people in his bands did he fire? Impossible not to call him a genius.

Great lead guitarist, not the best. Buck Dharma's better.

Who Cares? says:
Deep Purple has never been deep enough without him. His behavior has always seemed peculiar, but he sure can rock that guitar like no one else can.

Is there some place in between? He's a great guitar player.

Dont know anything else about him. Dont need too.

I dont know if it takes a "genius" to play a guitar really well. It takes a lot of practice and dedication, as well some talent and ability. I think "genius" is an overused term in music.

He was a genius in Deep Purple and Rainbow and is an innovator beyond comparison (arguably THE most influential guitarist ever). However, he morphed into "idiot" terrain with Blackmore's Night (I dunno, it seems like he really does believe that he's Sir Lancelot or something...odd, to say the least).

...Am I the only one who'll admit I prefer Blackmore's Night over Deep Purple? The man's a genius, whether you like him personally or not. I love his songwriting and guitar playing. :)

I got the first 3 BN albums and liked them. But enuff is enuff... Lets rock it a bit Ritchie

genius guitarist and great songwriter whose behavior and character (as told by others) appears at times (or, perhaps, more often than not) eccentric, egocentric, and/or asocial

I find him most impressive and feel he is more expressive when he rocks (which is the only way I have seen him perform with Deep Purple and Rainbow many years ago)

arguably the greatest lead soloist ever with few living peers (unfortunately, more {e.g., Hendrix, SRV, Duane A., Rory G}, are rocking heaven)
