I think maybe Iron Maiden was the third example I couldn't remember, and the reason I started this thread in the first place.

I don't remember the music group. I do remember the political group, and I've recently (2014) heard of the cognitive bias called the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon. (There's a whole lot to say about that phenomenon and its relationship to this post, but I don't believe I'm up to the task.)
