So I love the Regency period- there's just something magical about it.
However, it seems practically every regency romance nowdays is filled with sex.
Now I like the current writing styles in the books, and I have read many that I liked- but I am getting fed up with all the sex.
Please, please, please recommend some good clean Regency romances- other that Georgette Heyers.

Carla Kelly is a very popular regency author who has very mild sex scenes.

So how 'clean' are you looking for? Are you OK with 'warm'? Or would you just prefer 'mild' and 'kisses' only?

Melanie says:
You might look into the ones published by Signet. I think they started publishing them back in the 1970's and stopped a few years ago. Lots to choose from there.

Try Hazel Statham. Her regencies are clean, but more than that, they are
very well written.

Elizabeth Mansfield's Regencies have just kisses.

I agree with Melanie - check out the used books from Signet and Fawcett. My favorite authors are Mira Stables-"The Byram Succession", Norma Lee Clark - "Hester", Dorothy Mack - "The Reluctant Suitor", Marjorie Farrell-"Lady Barbara's Dilemma", Sheila Walsh-"The Sargent Majors' - Daughter";Charlotte Louise Dolan - "The Unofficial Suitor" to name a few. Mary Balogh's early works as well as Carla Kelly's were first published then too, in these series.

Susan: So for earlier ones- written before the 2000's?

And thanks everyone for all the great suggustions- my reading list has expanded greatly.

I would recommend Mary Balogh for sure- her intimacy scenes are light. Especially her older stuff. Karen Harbaugh is similar to Mary Balogh- there are intimacy scenes but they are usually light, at the very end of the book and never the focus.

Also, Elaine Coffman. I read her book "The Bride of Black Douglas" which was a fun Regency romance and the sex scenes were totally closed door. I'm not sure if all her romances are like that, but I think you would enjoy her.

You should check out the recommended authors under "kisses, subtle and warm" here:

Clare Darcy writes a little like Georgette Heyer, not nearly as well, but she's the closest match I've found so far and I did enjoy her books. Also I love a lot of Sara Blayne's regencies, like "A Noble Resolve". :)

Try Sheila Simonson's

Lady Elizabeths Comet

and

A Cousinly Connexion

Both were excellent reads and very clean. I picked up these recs on the Regency Romance boards. You might want to try that board as well for recommendations. There's a discussion on smut free romances there.

Cheers

How can I find the regency romance forum? Thanks

The regency romance forum is pretty quiet. Not much activity. A great website for the old regencies is " the nonesuch.com. With a few exceptions the books there are squeaky clean. If you have a kindle device you can search " belgrave house regency reads" at amazon. These are old regencies ( for the most part) that have been digitalized.

Any Georgette Heyer book would meet your standard, and they are very good books.

What about Candice Hern? I've only read one of her books, but it was clean & very cute.

A Proper Companion (A Regency Romance)

Her books are all very inexpensive, as well.

I second the Mary Balogh rec, but her books do have sex in them. She is not as detailed in her writing as a lot of authors, but it is present in her books. I love her writing, though. Try some of her older bundles:

Dark Angel/Lord Carew's Bride

Was pretty good, and you get two books for the price of one!

I've read them and I especially liked Lord Carew's Bride. It was such a sweet and lovely romance. I fell in love with Lord Carew's gentle and kind nature. Thanks

Oooh, I've gotten a couple of really good, no-sex regencies lately that I really enjoyed. Apparently she self-pubbed the first and now they're repubbed by a small house. I think there's a third I haven't gotten yet. Try Seeking Persephone and Courting Miss Lancaster by Sarah Eden.

I'll second the Clare Darcy and Elizabeth Mansfield recommendations. I've read a lot of regencies, and those are among the best.

I'll STRONGLY second Carla Kelly. Her books are really a cut above.

One way to find favorite authors for regencies is through the anthologies. There was a whole series of "A Regency Christmas I/II/III etc." over the years, and they would have novellas from 4 or 5 regency authors on the publishers lists. Reading those usually gave me a good idea of whose full length regencies I would enjoy. You can often find a few for cheap at the local UBS.

Joan Smith wrote a lot of regencies a while back (what ever happened to her?) for signet, i think. Clean and funny.

I loved all the books by Sarah Eden. Besides Seeking Persephone and Courting Miss Lancaster, she has another book out called Friends and Foes. Also, the best clean regency book I've read to date is called Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson. It is witty, some LOL humor, and lots of romantic tension.
