I just finished re-reading "Extreme Exposure" by Pamela Clare. While Reese, the hero, certainly is appealing, I found myself rolling my eyes at how perfect he was. He is a rich, honest, ripped, handsome, witty, etc guy who can also cook, build a cabin and save the damsel. Blah. So not realistic.

Anyway, it made me start to wonder if there are any books with maybe not physically flawed heroes but heroes who are normal guys.

Oh, dear. I think you've run into a Gary Stu. Reminds me of my experience with Jax from Jill Shalvis' Simply Irresistible. He was a contractor, bar owner, landlord, friendly neighborhood philanthropist, and mayor; not to mention the fact that he was uber understanding, overly giving, didn't have a commitment phobic bone in his body, was always around, and was so in tune with the heroine's emotions and secret thoughts that he could almost be called *psychic.* Again, I say: Gary Stu.

I like some of Sarah Mayberry's heroes. Her hero from More Than One Night (Harlequin Super Romance) had some nice characterization (though I still wouldn't call him a favorite or anything like that). Of course, if you haven't read the plot blurb or seen the cover, the book covers a ONS that leads to more than either party bargains for. The hero goes from being a total stranger to the reader and heroine to behaving like a total tool (major flaws to be seen when his blowout comes) to actually becoming likeable.

The hero from her other book, Anything For You (Harlequin Blaze), also has some flaws - he's slightly...dense. I want to say I enjoyed this book slightly more than the aforementioned read - it covers the friends to lovers plot, and I really like those kind of storylines.

I don't know if this is at all like what you're looking for, but I have really enjoyed several books by this author (with the exception of two of them) and think she has a knack for creating realistic and flawed characters.

Thanks so much! I had never before heard of a Gary Stu but I'm so glad I now
have a word for what annoys me. :) thanks!

And I'll check out your suggestions.

If you don't mind historicals, Carla Kelly's heroes are almost always very nice, very normal guys.
