I thought a thread dedicated to discussing free books that you've found to be good or bad was in order.

The books don't have to be free at the moment, but can be books that were offered for free at one time. I'd bet that a lot of us have downloaded some of the same books.

I haven't been very good at tackling my huge TBR freebie pile but I did read Restraint (Xcite Romance) and Bone Deep and I thought both were very good.

Want You Back was really bad I wish I could get my time back.

Jenny Reder is finally moving on with her life. Her CPA business is thriving and she's engaged to a man who may not be the love of her life - but then, the love of her life left her at the altar. Now, however, just as abruptly as Jake Durham vanished before their wedding, he's back. It doesn't take long for Jenny to realize that her ex still has the power to make her breathless with desire - and long for something that can never be...

Jake has a perfectly good explanation for why he walked out on his wedding to Jenny two years ago. The trouble is, he can't tell her the truth about why he left and where he's been. Even if he could, she probably wouldn't believe it. But Jake hasn't given up on marrying the only woman he'll ever love. Convincing Jenny to give him another chance might not be easy - but as far as Jake is concerned, leaving her twice in a lifetime would be downright impossible.

I love second chance romance. The ending was so rush.

I just finished Bone Deep, which I got as a freebie, and thought it was a good read as well.

Here is an author that has freebies quite frequently. Kimberley Reeves. She has about 19 works and has a rating over 3.7 on Goodreads. Everyone of her books I have read have been awesome. Some very emotional, some with a good twist and overall good writing. I write her praises often. I would even pay for these books if I hadn't got them free. (I am very frugal!!)
These are my favorite so far:

LITTLE WHITE LIES (The Carringtons)

I have about 5 others that I haven't gotten to yet. My tbr pile is huge.

D. Arnold,
I have actually read Blind Faith and Broken. I loved them both. I find I have several of Kimberley Reeves' book in my TBR file. Thanks for bringing her to my attention again..
She gets moved up. :)

Here is one I have just finished and really enjoyed it. Strong, Silent Cowboy

Cowboys are trouble ...
Kirk Manning was at home in the saddle, at a rodeo or on a ranch. But when it came to speaking his heart, well, this rugged cowboy was a greenhorn! So he asked lovely Shannon Montgomery for help ...

Cowboys are Dangerous ...
When Shannon first saw the rugged, sexy, risk-taking man, her instinctive response was "No way!" How could she ever concentrate with him focusing on her every word? Still, Kirk need her, and before Shannon knew it, she was giving - and getting! - private lessons!

Cowboys are irresistible!

Father of the Bride? (Dearly Beloved Book 1) this is really bad.

For the mother of the groom, a destination wedding at a Caribbean resort should be a joyful occasion, but Penny Malloy doubts her heart will survive the weekend. Her ex-husband is the stepfather of the bride. As soon as she sees David Parker again, she realizes she loves him as much as she ever did.

What started as a fairy tale romance--when twelve-year-old David kissed Penny on the playground--has turned into a demented soap opera: a son who doesn't know his father's identity, and divorced parents pretending to be strangers.

But it's another kiss that reminds them of all they had...and the promise of what could be. Can David and Penny face the past together and declare their feelings? Or are they twenty-four years too late?

He abandon his own son and take care his second wife child in exchange for money. Wish I could get my time back because my time cost more then the book even I don't have a job.

I got Escorted when it was free, if you did to I would move it up the TBR pile. It was so different, it was a romance that was full of discriptive smex, the whole book really, but because of what it was about it made sense, and the whole build to the acutal relationship thing was just so interesting. It was just a real pleasant suprise

Here's a really bad one: Mardi Gravestone Apparently the author has now removed it from the Kindle store and it's only available as paperback. The book was absolutely abysmal, very badly written. I left a review and then got attacked by both the author and her fangirl. Beware...

Good to know! I picked it up the other day as well, glad it's a good one!

I picked up Bone Deep a while ago and had completely forgotten about it. Lost on my kindle in the sea of TBR. I might have to pump it up if its good.

Coconut says:
I agree with you about Escorted. I was leery at first about the idea of the H as a gigolo. But as you read more into the book, it became emotionally deeper. And we can understand why the H chose that profession. One thing I wasn't sure about is, at the end of the book, the H was studying for his PhD. I thought he only had high school education. Was I wrong ?

Coconut says:
I finished A Needful Heart last night and it was a good read. The H had a rough childhood so he was the strong and silent type. He was extremely crazy about the h though so I got my Alpha Hero fix.

Three's a Crowd by Madeline Fontaine...Three's A Crowd

I got this book as a freebie and it was the worst book I have ever read. It has everything to make a train wreck look interesting. Cheating, babies, OW that just won't leave and a wimpy H.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 9, 2013, 7:08:17 AM PST
Alexis, can you spoil Three's A Crowd? Does the H stay w/the h?

Rena, this book sounds familiar...and bad. Its terrible when the bba or fangirl/boy get personal in response to an honest review, i read a pretty bad book recently and way overpriced and was informed that I am illiterate and i had a personal vendetta against a well known author....clearly, some amazon customers are from a different planet....maybe?

Hey all,

Gunspurs thanks for creating this. I think it's great that we chat about our free books without cattiness and drama. *Steps down from soap box*

The freebies that I have read and enjoyed are:

Haunted on Bourbon Street (Jade Calhoun Series: Book 1) - which is still free
A Hidden Fire: Elemental Mysteries Book 1 - still free
Sleepy Willow's Bonded Soul (The Narcoleptic Vampire Series Vol. 1) - a very dark paranoral romance

One that was okay:

Half Blood (A Helheim Wolf Pack Tale) - was free a couple of days ago. - Indie pubbed as many freebies are... needs some fine tuning but great premise

Ral's Woman: 1 (Zorn Warriors) - hot alien dude...hmmm that's all it really had going for it. The writing was really simplistic but I would read the second book if it was free or someone lent it.

Ones that I did NOT like:
Fire Licked - I'm still trying to figure out the author's purpose in writing this. It would have been interesting except I could give two f**** about anything that occurred cause the story went like this:

PNR girl meets PNR boy who saves her from being a sacrifice on to a lava god
PNR girl and PNR have sex immediately
PNR boy saves PNR girl from previous lava god
PNR boy ditches PNR girl with a "The sex was amazing, I'm not ready to settle down but I have a house in Mexico if you need someplace to stay"

I also didn't like How to Date a Werewolf (Rylie Cruz Series), each chapter had a funny little tip but the actual story mostly consisted of weird, tense, and awkward interactions between all the characters. I would MAYBE read the next book if it were free. MAYBE...

Ok, I'm not good at spoiling but I'll try.

****spoiler's ahead******

Re: Three's a Crowd - This book starts off with the H/h newly married when the H decides to have an affair with his college professor. The affair goes on for about 3-4 years. The wife finds out I think around their anniversary and leaves but the H begs her to take him back which she does. Afterwards, h gets pregnant but loses the baby in a bad fall, then sinks into depression and the H commits her into a mental hospital for treatment. While she is in the hospital, the H goes back to the college professor and picks up the affair until wife gets out of mental hospital. The h leaves the H to take a break and I guess regroup, while she is gone the H practically moves in with the college professor to the point that her children think of him as their father. The h comes back after a year and the H goes back to the wife and never mentions that he has been smex*ing and living with the OW. Needless to say after some other drama, the h decides to stay in her marriage but she is unaware of the extent to which her husband has been cheating while she was gone. Also, in this story the h cheats while she was away but I couldn't even blame her because the H was such a dirtbag.

Omg! I am SO glad I never read this! I remember it being talked about a while ago on the Worst Betrayal thread--so so not for me.

Hi all,
I've never posted a review before, but wanted to warn about a horrendous freebie I read recently. I've downloaded an insane amount for my TBR pile (which is still growing daily btw), and I have been extremely forgiving with all the self-published authors, but this one made me want to smack my head for even reading after the first few paragraphs.
Call Me Renee (Short Story Romance) no longer free
The writing was in third person perspective, confusing and FLAT. I don't think there was a shred of emotion in it. It also read like a "write by numbers" story. The h was annoying, and the story made little sense.
