Lily Rose,

I think she's referring to The Opportunist. Lots of glowing reviews from people who haven't reviewed anything else and the critical reviews are downvoted and commented on. Doesn't look like there's an HEA, but maybe Chris can tell you more about that.

ETA: One of the comments mentions "cheating and unhappy endings"....

Also looks like one of the high raters also gives only high ratings to EVERYTHING they review.

I've read the 1 star review. This book is classified as romance. Are you serious? O.O
Absolutely to avoid. I'd not read it even if it was free.

L. Burns says:
The comment about "cheating and unhappy endings" was directed at a reviewer who didn't like the book. Something along the lines of that being "real life" and if you "can't handle it you should stick to Twilight". Nice. I wonder if it's even a Romance?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 6, 2012, 4:58:54 AM PDT
HJ Leonard says:
Shouldn't be classified as a romance if it doesn't have a happy ending. Period.

And I despise it when fans attack a reviewer because they didn't like the book.

L. Burns says:
I am always grateful for reviewers who leave 1 and 2 star reviews. I just skimmed the gushing "one hit wonders", but I doubt I would have picked up on the cheating and the unhappy ending without the critical reviews. The title of this one was familiar because I think it was being rec'd quite a bit in the forums a while back.

oh man, no HEA? I just read the sample and i really liked it and i want to know what happens next. But i don't want to read further if there is no HEA, or even HFN.

Has anyone read this? Spoilers please!

edited to add : never mind, just read the 1 star review and i'm staying very far from this book

Lily Rose 81 says:
I don't attack someone if I read they despised my keepers and wrote hateful reviews.
I might do the same with theirs.
But don't judge my reading tastes and opinions. Never. No one is above another thinking to have more taste or knowledge or what.
Sometimes I like "real life" romances, sometimes I don't. It's me the one reading and feeling.
I can not share your opinions but I don't attack you for thinking differently from me.

De gustibus.

re: The Opportunist--I first saw this book on Maryse's book blog and she gave it 4.5 stars--she said there would be a book 2 so maybe HEA in that one? haven't read it yet but I usually respect her opinion. Check out her review if you are interested.

There is a HEA, just not an HEA that you would expect, and it will make you angry. I loved this book, absolutely enjoyed it. But the end pissed me off, bad.

Does anyone know a possible release date for bk 2. If its angsty/emotional etc I think I'd rather wait for the 2nd bk but I sure am curious.

Now I am completely curious -- go ahead and spoil please -- what's the bad ending?

@Connie, I'm reading Bare to You now. I like it. I just finished reading Knight by Kristen Ashley, and for some reason I like that much better. I'm looking for similar once I finish BTY. I'm under the impression Beautiful Disaster is closer to YA, or at least the characters are young. Am I wrong here? I've avoided it for that reason, so I'd like to know.

Still reading through older comments for recs, too.

HJ Leonard says:
Jade -

While pretty much everyone considers BD to be YA, don't let the author catch you saying it. She'll deny it through one side of her mouth while encouraging her fans to vote it best YA (or some such) book of the year.

The characters are in college.

The Opportunist Spoliers--****
---there is really so much in this book I feel like in order to say everything I'd have to rewrite the whole thing, so I'm going to try my best to make a spoiler summary. I've never written a spoiler so I apologize if it's weird or confusing. Haha. Sorry ----

Here's a rundown of the book:
Olivia runs into Caleb after not seeing him for 3 years after he told her to stay away. He has lost his memory and doesn't remember her. So she plays along and pretends she doesn't know him. He has a girlfriend he was thinking about proposing to. As the story goes along Olivia and Caleb wind up getting physically involved, thus causing him to cheat on his girlfriend (Leah, who is also the main character in book 2). Leah finds out that Olivia and him have a past so she gives Olivia money to go away or she will tell Caleb that Olivia is the one who broke his heart after doing a ton of horrible things. Olivia does leave, and she meets a different guy, whom she is living with and engaged to, and returns back home, to find out Leah is the one that set her up with the new guy(after she breaks into Caleb's house with her friend and they go thru all of his stuff). She breaks up with her fiancé. she decides (since they also found him and Leah are on vacation) to try and find him so she can tell him about how Leah made her leave and set her up with her fiance. She gets on a plane to Rome where they are vacationing and sits next to a guy named Noah. So the whole trip she tells him all about what happened between her and Caleb. He takes her to where Caleb is staying and drops her off. Then they (her and Noah) have dinner together, which he tells her that she doesnt love Caleb as much as she loves herself. He tells her to choose wisely and leaves. Her and Caleb finally see each other (after she makes a heart filled monologue to his hotel window from the street) he tells her he will never forget her (then goes on to explain he was faking the memory loss because he just wanted to have a fresh start with Olivia but she wound up leaving) and that he always loved her first. she does not tell him that Leah is the one that got her to leave. Epilogue - Olivia is getting married. As she goes to walk down the isle, she sees Caleb by a tree, she smiles and turns to walk down the isle towards Noah.

*opportunist spoilers*

Sorry I hope that spoiler helps. There is literally so much backstabbing and manipulation in this book, it's kind of insane. And really, the lengths that Olivia goes thru to get and keep Caleb is crazy, for her to wind up marrying a different guy. So I think she gets a HEA, just a different guy.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 6, 2012, 11:36:54 AM PDT
HJ Leonard says:

So in other words, she (Olivia) is a real selfish piece of work, right? Sounds more like chick-lit. Still isn't a romance.

Posted on Jun 6, 2012, 11:39:18 AM PDT
Christina says:
Yes. She is completely selfish. I guess you could consider it more along the lines of chick-lit. Since there really isn't much romance in the book, it's just lies and manipulation. It's still a really good book. The ending just left me mad though because I went thru all that crap just to get a HEA with a different guy.

Ann says:
All I can say after reading that spoiler is WTF!!?!?!?! WOW - I'd need notes to keep track of who's with who and who's screwing who....And then there will be a bk 2 and possibly a bk 3?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 6, 2012, 12:53:43 PM PDT
Jade Cary says:
Hmmm...thanks, HJ. I'll think about it.

Christina says:
It's actually a lot easier to follow if you read it. I left a lot out. And Noah only appears briefly at the end and then the epilogue says a little about him and that was it. I think that's why the ending sucked so bad. Fisher gave her to someone we really didn't know. I hate that.

grrrrrr what a book... it was peddled a few weeks ago with a different cover

Tarryn Fisher. It will be a three book series. No the first one doesn't have the happiest of endings, but it is worth it. I loved and cannot get it out of my head.
