I'm glad Breath of Fire 3 was finally mentioned but I noticed a few gems missing. Nobody mentioned the Wild Arms series or Vagrant Story? Wild Arms had pretty epic storylines, I think Wild Arms 3 was my favorite of the series. Vagrant Story was an amazing game with an incredibly involving storyline with replay value to truly "complete" the story.

Chrono Cross for the PS1 and The Persona games (All systems).

I'd have to go with
3rd = "Dragon Warrior"
2nd = "Phantasy Star II"
1st = "Fallout 3" without a doubt, the best game of all time!

Your welcome!

System Shock 2. Dark, scary. Awesome. Yeah I know it's not multiplatform. So for that I'd say anything by Atlus.

10.Parasite Eve (How the hell has no-one mentioned this yet?)
11.Lunar 1 & 2
12.Beyond: Good & Evil (Hey, if Zelda counts as an RPG this better too!)
13.Rouge Galaxy
14.Legacy Of Kain(Again, how the hell has no-one mentioned this yet?)

Mr Francis says:
There are many great RPGs but IMO there is four greats of all time:
1# Final Fantasy VII (the best of all)
2# Star Wars KOTOR
3# Final Fantasy Tactics
4# Dragon Age Origins
Honoray Mentions: Oblivion and Fallout 3 but the stories in my top four are far better.

I'd have to say final fantasy 12. The game is a gem, and way under rated.

All you newbies missed out of the greatest of them all:

Final Fantasy III for the SNES (Final Fantasy VI in Japan). Accept no substitutes...

I agree with many of the people here that Final Fantasy XII was underrated. It's a shame, too: because of its lackluster reception, we were forced to stomach Final Fantasy XIII. :-(

yea, Final Fantasy III for the SNES was pretty good. Did anyone mention the secret of mana? I can't remember.....

Anyone who doesn't say Wizardry 8 probably hasn't played it.

Final Fantasy VI, also known as final fantasy III on the US SNES.

I liked Kings Field 2 and Leisure Suit Larry.
Can you call Zelda an RPG?
I always thought Zelda was more action.
If you're calling it RPG, I pick Link to the Past from Super Nintendo also.

I'd say my Tops in no particular order:
- FF13(love it or hate it for everyone lol),FF7,FF6, FF10,FF 3 and 4 DS versions
- Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, 365/2 was pretty good for a DS game also
-Vagrant Story
- Star Ocean:Till the end of time
-Grandia II(Dreamcast Version)
-Dragon Age Origins
-Demon's Souls

You know, when somebody who avoids a game as best he can is able to more accurately identify the title of one of your favorite games than you are, I think that says something. I'm not entirely sure what, but something could probably be said.

By the way, it's 358/2.

Agreed. I actually was able to finish it but the story was complete crap. People will be out for my blood now. And i couldn't agree with your more on FFTactics. While not my favorite it is a masterpiece and i think out of all the FF games it has the best story.

i can always spot out the people from my generation. I agree with all your choices. I find alot of younger people worship FFX but they hate the classics. I've spent more gaming hours on FFVI than any other game. Kudos to you

To be fair, I think a lot of the "classics" attained that status because of nostalgia. I don't understand what people like so much about Chrono Trigger, although I love a lot of SNES rpgs.

Posted on Jun 7, 2010, 11:15:44 PM PDT
I can agree with that definitely, but i also believe they set the bar for alot of jrpgs today, not so much the western ones. But yeah if i picked up chrono trigger for the first time today i probably wouldn't be into it as much as i was 15 years ago.

I actually still play Chrono Trigger to this day :) I always liked the concept of traveling thru time.

Compelling characters, an excellent soundtrack, a world that needs saving and that you can actually save, an action-esque battle system that still rewards statistical and descision-making mastery, multiple endings, and exploiting time travel.

I'd have to say either Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Demon's Souls, Disgaea, or S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl. Much better than Fallout 3! :)
