I'm a real estate appraiser looking to buy a tablet for my inspections & I am not sure if I need a "Rugged Tablet". I need a tablet that will hold up in all kinds of weather & be tough enough for every day use in the field. I've looked at some of the rugged tablets but they are so much more expensive then regular ones. I'm not an Apple fan so i am looking at Android or a windows version. My software vendor Alamode has an App for Android to make my job a lot easier so I am anxious to get rid of my clipboard & legal pad but i need some help on what i need. Any help is appreciated

I think Panasonic makes one but it is pricy. The windows tablets tend to be pricy as well. As far as regular ones go they are all about the same. If you get a good case like Otterbox etc you shouldn't have any problem with any of them. The key would be a good case such as Otterbox etc which are designed to withstand drops etc.

Hello Barry,

As mentioned, Panasonic makes two lines of ruggedized tablets, the Toughbook and Toughpad. They are expensive, yes, because they are industrial grade at worst and military grade at best. They might be overkill for what you do though. A good tablet with Gorilla Glass and a solid case may serve just as well.

I wonder if a good rugged case with a normal tablet might do what you want and save you some money and give you a wider range of choices.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess now my question is:
1. Which tablet with Gorilla Glass is the better one?
2. Are there any planned releases of new products that would be worth waiting for?
3. I only need wifi just as long as I can tether it to my Samsung Galaxy-S phone via blue tooth, which i'm not sure if you can do on these.
