When I play online on ps3 I tend to do really good. I don't know why but I feel the online community seems lacking on the ps3. I think the dualshock 3 isn't as well tuned and percise as the 360 controller, effecting the competition or maybe the ps3 is for solo people who only like single player games. What a waste of technology. Or am i just crazy?

Crazy? Probably not. Annoying? Mildly so.

I love my PS3 for exclusive titles only (single player), so the man does have a point with me.

Actually, I don't know. Maybe? I'm not sure how the millions of PSN users would be "less competitive" than the millions of XBL users, and I certainly don't understand how the dualshock is "as well tuned" (you can tune those suckers?), but I can't objectively say you're right or wrong.

Well, your post did get crazier and crazier as it went along (fine tuned controller, wasted technology, etc.) but the main point seems right.

It makes sense that a system that has a paywall for the multiplayer component would also house the people who 1) take competitive multiplayer more seriously, and 2) play more to get their money's worth out of it, thus become increasingly better at it.

I dunno, my PS3 just texted my 360 and said "87 metascore, beetch!" Sounds pretty competitive to me.

As an owner of both ps3 and xbox 360, I agree with part of what you're saying; online shooters do seem to be a little less competitive than on xbox, or at least that's the case with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. However, I completely disagree that the PS3 is any kind of wasted technology; the types of gamer that the PS3 tends to attract is certainly a more casual sort, people like me who don't have as much time as we used to to play games, and so we choose to spend our preciuos gaming time on more story driven single- player games rather than adrenaline-pumping online mayhem. And while game developers are certainly doing a better job of adapting games like Call of Duty to the PS3, the true potential of the machine is unlocked through games specifically designed for it, like Uncharted, Killzone, God of War, etc.

Yeah, I really don't understand the deletion protocol.

You can talk about this book: Shit. But you can't talk about this book: Idiot.. Or this song either, apparently: Tits [Explicit].

No Shit, sherlock. MLG and competitive ladders are all on 360 for some reason. All the major youtubers are on 360 as well, it's no surprise that you'd find less competition. I've said it before - PS3 is for single player people and 360 is if you prefer online games. 360 has Halo and Gears, PS3 has Uncharted and Journey. See?

"I don't get it. The PS3 just isn't as competitive as the 360. He just wants to sit around all day and play his video games instead of going out and playing sports like a normal boy."

It is because the PS3 features free online play so any scrub can play. The Xbox Live Gold subcription requirement keeps the riff raff out and elevates the level of gameplay you find online.

DVvM says:
Well, I think that people who are really competitive would probably want to compete in the arenas that feature the most competitors (so there are either more worthy adversaries, you have more people to lord it over by being king of the mountain, and you have an easier time finding a game).

For whatever reason, multiplayer games (particularly popular things like Call of Duty) tend to have a larger install base on the Xbox 360. So potentially, if one is not disinclined to pay the access fee for Xbox Live Gold, that playing your competitive multiplayer games on the 360 would be a rational decision (i.e. it is conceivable that the value proposition of $60/year for a larger group of people to play with could work out for someone.)
