Yeah, I ended up beating it last night.

Awesome game. I started a new game up right after that and am going to try the go in and destroy everything approach.

I'm not going to bother arguing specifics with you because neither of us are going to change our minds. that being said, I'm an economic conservative first and foremost. I am socially liberal, but the economy is what really matters right now. and Obama is horrible for the economy.

you say its the republicans fault. i say its both the republicans AND the democrats fault. neither side has really made many bipartisan efforts recently. when the republicans pass something in the house, the democrats in the senate block it, when the democrats pass something in the senate, the republicans in the house block it. and that's completely ignoring the two years that the dems had the house, senate, and white house. the only thing they really accomplished was forcing through Obamacare. a widely unpopular action that ultimately cost the dems the house.

Plugging away with some AssCreed III tonight. I have to free three sets of prisoners and one is on a boat. Of course if I am detected, game over. If I kill someone: Game over. I hate missions like this. It really takes away from the game. I free guys right in front of Redcoats and they don't blink. I do it on the final one, and they notice or somehow notice a kill a mile away. Stupid.

Yeah, it's often an issue I have with stealth games that don't display the "cone of vision".

I believe I know the part you're referencing. I think it's one of those scenarios where they want you to do it a fairly specific way. Took me a few tries to get it down.

It is frustrating because it is so arbitrary. Why not save each time that you free some prisoners? Or let me kill a bunch of Redcoats or tell me what to do. I can kill guys from an effing corner and the general....But of course you get detected and then what about the body that lays there? Oh well, I will play later.

Speaking of frustrating stuff in games today I finally managed to sit down and beat Dead Island. Wow. Just wow.

I'm a pretty big fan of the game, I loved the opening and working my way through the beach, city, and most of the jungle. The final stretch of the game though just becomes stupid and strung out just to make the game longer. The escort missions are annoying as hell, especially when the person I'm with just stops when we reach a pack of zombies and does nothing to defend herself leaving me to deal with six of these monsters on my own all the while trying to keep them off her. Worst yet is that this character isn't important at all, she could have died and nothing would have changed. In fact she gets multiple people killed! For some reason I couldn't jump in the truck that was right there and just drive her up to the lab in the jungle, nope we had to walk the whole way there so I could kill a bunch of zombies.

Then you get to the final area of the game and they keep playing that BS move of "You need to do this for me to get X" yet every time you complete a task it isn't enough. So I do three missions for this guy trying to get access to a new area when the man I've been talking to the whole time on the radio just tells me how to get to him making everything I just did completely pointless. To make matters even more annoying the side characters who weren't with me managed to get there as well making me wonder why the hell he didn't just tell me how to get there in the first place.

The final boss fight was completely ridiculous and made zero damn sense. This game went from being a pretty awesome experience to the last 20% of the story line just being a complete drag where everything fell apart at the seams.

I did not have too many problems with Dead Island. The escort missions were not too bad for me. What irked me was the city portion, all of a sudden the Zombies got really, really strong and it got repetitive in parts. But overall, the game was pretty fun. It did not live up to its beginning but when I started to get bored they did mix it up.

I just wish games could make things more dynamic. The same side-mission over and over with the same characters in the same spot, saying the same thing gets really old. How many times did they need water, bandages, food or champagne. Shut down the side-mission and have them say something else. Come back and find them slaughtered or help them escape.

I just couldn't stand Yerma in the slightest and just wanted her dead. What purpose did she serve? She ate the zombie brains so she was infected and thus couldn't provide a clean sample to make a vaccine. She couldn't defend herself. She got all the doctors killed at the lab because she thought they were taking too much blood (she ran away to the city so she knows these things), she got Mowen killed (one of the only useful side characters) because she couldn't defend herself, tries to tell me she is strong but she worries about Jin never mind I found her cowering in a cave and she's never none anything for herself from everything I've seen, and then at the end of the game she just kind of stood there doing nothing.

Escorting the Shaman didn't bug me that much because he'd actually fight and defend himself, same with Mowen. Yerma just stood there screaming but then would tell me she's this strong person who wasn't going to be sold into slavery...

I agree with you that in games like this I'd like to see characters move around, change what they need and want, and so much more. One thing I really wanted to see in Dead Island was more of an open system like in Elder Scrolls where pretty much all the characters you encounter can be killed. Every time I came across a pocket of survivors I knew that was a safe haven and no zombies would ever get in there. In fact at one point I remember running into an area with survivors with a few zombies on me thinking they would help me kill them only to see the zombies turn around and start wandering off because I had stepped inside the shelter. There were numerous areas around the map where you were basically outside the zombies "zone" and they had no interest in you anymore until you came back into their zone.

I sold my copy but tempted to get the GotY during BF or another time when it is cheap. I will get Riptide for sure. Damn, with that, along with Gears, DSIII, Bioshock and Aliens it will be a busy first quarter or so of next year.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2012, 9:08:52 PM PST
I'm gonna wait and see on Riptide, I really hope they learned from their mistakes in the first game and we'll see a vast improvement on a few of the systems. Chances are I'll end up with it because I'm a huge zombie fan and I remember drooling over Dead Island all the way back in 2008 when it was an Xbox 360 exclusive lol.

I've got Bioshock and Aliens on my list for early next year plus whatever the Wii-U is sending my way. Dead Space III I'll get around to eventually but I still need to get through the first two lol. Right now I'm stuck at the asteroid rage inducing section on the first game.

I still haven't beat two yet. I tore through the first one on Normal, putting hours and hours in it and played until I beat it. I was stoked for the sequel, and then I waited and waited. I decided to tackle the sequel on Easy as it had sat for 18 months on my shelf. I enjoy it but get ADD and move on.

I've got both on my PC at the moment just waiting for that mood to strike me again. I was on a horror kick for awhile there but I got my fix playing stuff like Slenderman and what have you.

Right now I'm starting to get back into Skyrim since I haven't beaten that yet and I'm killing time till the Wii-U releases.

This will be my last whine for the night:

It really pisses me off when I am digging a game. I was into the story of AssCreed III, moving along, enjoying myself. Sure the combat is pretty weak, and the AI pretty bad, but nevertheless it is a good game. Then they tack on missions that are seemingly pointless as I complained about in an above post. It is like Dead Space with the Asteroids crap. It is almost like developers sometimes go bat feces insane and take a great game and try and ruin it with some asinine crap. It is like having hot sex with a hot woman and she has to stop in order to take a crap.

Just watched Prometheus, not sure how I feel about the movie.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2012, 9:34:41 PM PST
I've been wanting to see that.

You have mixed feelings about it?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2012, 9:35:10 PM PST
I couldn't agree with you more and that is what got me to chime in about Dead Island lol. Sometimes I just wish I was a fly on the wall during certain development cycles on a game so I can understand what they were thinking.

@ Mogwai

I rather liked Prometheus and how it set everything up to lead into Aliens. A few things I wish had played out differently like Mr. Ineedtotoucheverything but overall I loved the film and can't wait to see where they go from here.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2012, 9:37:37 PM PST
It's definitely a movie worth watching, I just don't know if I like it. It's kinda hard to explain. Still see it as it is a Ridley Scott Sci-fi movie and should not be missed for that reason alone.

The movie definitely falls into the "Nobody would ever do what you do" type of sci-fi. For example NEVER TAKE OFF YOUR HELMET!!!!

EDIT: and don't get me started on people who like to poke unknown alien species.

If I had to rank them it would go Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Prometheus, Alien Resurrection.

And before you get too worried I like Alien 3 more than the average person.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2012, 9:43:20 PM PST
There aren't many in the game but there are like three towards the end which are pretty annoying, especially when there's a working vehicle right there but we're gonna walk the two miles through zombie infested jungle because that sounds like a much better plan.

@ Mogwai

Yea both of those segments left me scratching my head but beyond that I thought everything else played out pretty well and the ending came together nicely I thought.

David is one of my new favorite characters.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2012, 9:44:26 PM PST
The main aspect I hated about Alien 3 was that they killed off Hicks, Bishop, and Newt off camera completely undoing everything Cameron wanted to do moving forward and that completely turned him off the series for good.
