I'm sure I'll eventually buy both in time but which one is the better buy?

co-op? Borderlands.

Single player? RDR.

both are excellent, depends on what you're looking for. RDR has a MUCH better story.

Red Dead GotY

Fantastic single player with an epic story set in the Wild West (a completely under-utilized time in gaming) and a great SP expansion with Undead Nightmare that is actually pretty beefy in its own right.

Thanks man! Just looking for something to keep me busy through the winter. I was thinking RDR, zombie killing sounded good...

RDR as from what I hear Borderlands 2 is better than the 1st in almost every way.

I would say RDR first then Borderlands...but if at anytime you have the chance to get both, do it..you will not be disappointed..Both games have real high replayability..

Ugh, BL2 bored the ever loving crap out of me. I never even got out of the starting area. Meanwhile the first game is one of my 1000/1000 games on the 360.

RDR all the way. I wasn't a big fan of undead nightmare, but even still I think the better buy is RDR.

Borderlands for sure. But, I'm not a fan of Rockstar games so I'm a bit biased.

As others have said, both are excellent games; if you have to choose one, ask yourself instead what KIND of game you want first.

RDR is "wild-west" setting, open-world, with a very strong narrative and an engaging world to play in. The multiplayer is also fun, offering almost as much freedom as the single-player (but you can't play through the story with other people). Also, RDR has a lot more PvP options, if that appeals to you.

Borderlands is a similar kind of setting...it's not the old west, but Pandora is a lawless land. It's less story-driven, and more focused on getting better weapons and gear. Unlike RDR, Borderlands allows your friends to drop into the story at any time.

They're both great games, but they are completely different, gameplay-wise.

I'd skip BL and just get BL2 due to it being the same game with a new story line. I haven't Tried RDR been thinkin about it though.

(reason i say skip BL cause i played the crap out of it and now that I'm playing BL2 I'm having problems sitting down and playing it like the first one)

RDR is an awesome game from start to finish. All the DLC packs added MP and SP stuff. The free co-op mode was an awsome adition.

Borderlands is an awesome game but only good if you have people to play with or if people join your game. (but they can always take the good loot)

either way you go, you will spend 30 hours in each game at least.

Pony up the money for BL2 if you want to play some BL.

Yes, I have played Borderlands 1 at a friend's house. I spent the night there. We played World at War, Borderlands, Need for Speed Shift, and Mortal Kombat on 360. I thought all the games (sans Mortal Kombat) were mediocre. Red Dead is one of the few games I'll play on 360.

RDR is an overall better experience than Borderlands 1. Both good. I'd go with RDR first and then Borderlands. Plus Borderlands is a bit broken due to the Modding capability.

There is a good bit of zombie killing in Borderlands.

I don't know about RDR GOTY, but if you buy BL GOTY, make sure to find one that hasn't had the DLC redeemed already as it is not on the disc.

Both awesome games, though I think I preferred RDR on 360, I got more into BL on PC for some reason.

RDR is a great game, but Borderlands is one of the most memorable gaming experiences I've ever had. And ignore all of the nonsense about having to play co-op. I played both 100% single player.

That's weird. My GOTY copy of BL1 (PS3) had all the content on the disc, it just had to all be installed individually.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 28, 2012, 12:47:35 PM PST
The originals had DL codes but they re-released them with it all on disk when they realized that a lot of people were buying the GOTY version because they CAN'T download the expansions.

Beat both multiple times,

I would say RDR as well. BL1 is great, but BL2 is the much better game.

Ah that makes sense. I had bought my copy about 2 years ago, so it must have been before the change.
