D_Strasse says:
From the WSJ article on the PS4 comes this tidbit on MS's next box.

"Microsoft, while it has tested cloud gaming, is putting greater emphasis on software that allows the Xbox to interact with mobile devices like Apple's iPad. The company is also planning to create new interactive TV content to be played on its consoles, after opening up a new production studio in Southern California.

"We're looking at a very robust content production schedule," said Nancy Tellem, head of the new Xbox studio, at the recent "D: Dive Into Media" conference run by All Things D which, like The Wall Street Journal, is owned by News Corp NWSA +0.21%. She added the Xbox may be known as a game console, but Microsoft wants it to be much more. "Our focus is to transition it to an entertainment device."

So MS is going to start a TV studio to create content for the next Xbox?

Edit: Also, not rumour but straight from a company source.

Edit2: For teh link hounds.

Hmmnn...maybe one day in the short future paying for Gold will mean ditching cable altogether.

If i could get Fox, so my wife can get her Idol/Xfactor...i'd survive with Amazon/Redbox instant , ESPN3 and an NFL pass a year.

Take my savings and upgrade my Fios 25/25 to 50/50.

Paladia, VH1 Classics for That Metal Show, and cable news are the only reasons I haven't dropped cable myself.

Edit: Well that and the kiddie channels keep the kids busy on Saturday mornings.

I hate to say it, but a system that let me buy cable channels a la carte would be VERY appealing to me.

The market has been ready for that model for some time. Hopefully somebody steps up and delivers. I'd save some serious coin.

Except you'll still have to pay for cable on top of Gold... you'll just be able to throw out the cable box and use Microsoft's instead.

Which is one of the few reasons i can justify LIVE anymore. Got rid of the one HD box. Granted i don't have access to everything on the Fios app, but more than enough when i need to use it.

In general though, one of these Net companies needs to reshape the cable business. I'm ready dammit. I don't need their stinking house phone either.

Haha, I got the Fios landline since it was free with TV/internet for the year I had them... what a huge mistake. It was honestly more trouble than it's worth, and I repeat: it was free. Nothing but spam. All of our friends, family, and workplaces had our cell numbers already so no one we wanted to talk to ever called it.

This is the death knell for Xbox as a game console.

No, because Sony has a stellar first party dev stable.

MS, not so much.

I really don't mind consoles getting the swiss-army-knife treatment, as long as exclusives are great.
