not really, considering handhelds now are more than capable of displaying content, of what used to be only seen on a tv via console.

Uh, what?

Although Killzone debuted in the PS2 era, you gotta give props to the current gen KZ games. Killzone 2 was so good it deserved a 5 star review before even playing it.

In all seriousness though, LittleBigPlanet and Resistance are solid new IPs so hats off to Sony for those.

Guys, let's not make this thread a console war thread .. we're here because of the good games Sony has pumped out recently.

Really, what Flores should have said to contradict your "this generation is over" is that one generation starting doesn't mean another generation has ended.

I mean, you're one generation after your parents, and (I hope) your parents didn't cease existing with your birth.

More to the point with video games, Nintendo didn't stop selling or making games for the DS when the 3DS came out, Sony didn't stop selling or making games for the PS2 when the PS3 came out, etc. A generation ends, not because the next one started but because companies stop supporting consoles of the previous generation.

I mean, the Mega Drive/Genesis debuted in 1988, but the NES was supported through 1995. The Jaguar and 3DO kicked off the fifth generation in 1993 but the SNES was supported through 1999. The Sixth generation started with the Dreamcast in 1998 but Sony supported the PS2 until discontinuing it in this year. And so on...

yes, i'm already aware of this.

I would actually define a generation's end as when the company focuses production and marketing on the newer systems. I mean, in Japan you could walk into a store and buy a brand new Famicom (NES) as late as 2003 but I doubt anybody here is going to argue that the third generation was still alive. I have a new Dreamcast game on preorder.

i honestly don't care about exclusives anymore - its all about multi-platform gaming to me.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 26, 2012, 10:46:12 PM PST
Exclusives are what makes consoles, though.

DVvM says:
But exclusives are less important in this generation than any prior.

These days you pretty much just need to own one or the other HD console in order to play the vast majority of the really good games (because they're multiplats.)

"i honestly don't care about exclusives anymore - its all about multi-platform gaming to me."

This makes no sense to me. If a game is good or not, should its status as a multi-platform or exclusive title be considered indicative of its quality? A good multiplatform game and a good exclusive game are both just good games, so why single out multiplats as a preference? Wouldn't it make more sense to get the console with exclusives that cater better to your gaming tastes?

"Exclusives are what makes consoles, though."

Agreed.

I agree with this agreed.

Or have all three consoles so that one can have the best of all three worlds, like me.

Let's use the Wii for an example:
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Xenoblade Chronicles
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mario Kart Wii
Metroid Prime 3
Donkey Kong Country Returns

All of these are regarded as the Wii's best games.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 26, 2012, 10:53:56 PM PST
Well, if that was Xbox, then I see your point.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 26, 2012, 10:54:10 PM PST
because for one thing, i don't live off exclusives like i used to. just because exclusives are made, doesn't mean they're all gonna be good, or they're all gonna be something you'll enjoy - same for multi-platform titles. why rely an exclusive to do that, when a multi-platform game might provide the same experience, only better? yes, and vice-versa.

Sure, Nintendo consoles may be worth owning for the exclusives, but are anybody else's?

I have an Xbox 360 and a Wii. There aren't enough PS3 exclusives I am interested in playing to really convince me to spend the money to get one.

Neither Microsoft nor Sony has done a very good job this generation making the sorts of games that I like playing.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 26, 2012, 10:55:39 PM PST
You have a point there, Nintendo does have the best exclusives of all three.

No, DVvM just has very specific taste in games. That wasn't a comment on any game library's quality. Just because you don't think Xbox has a good game library doesn't mean everyone else thinks so, just as thinking the Wii has the best exclusives doesn't mean everyone else thinks so.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 26, 2012, 10:56:04 PM PST
Let me guess, you prefer the Wii.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 26, 2012, 10:56:51 PM PST
Yeah, the only reason why I use Xbox anymore is because of GTAIV, and that's multiplat.
