IV, VI and VII are the top three in the franchise.

I just ordered III & IV on the DS because I found an awesome deal. However, I am likely getting either a vita or a PS3 for Christmas. Which system is better for these? Any preferences?

Well, FFIII and IV on DS were 3D remakes, and the PSN versions are the (mostly)originals, so you can expect a drop off in graphics, but the PSN has a larger selection.

edit: And also, FFIV on DS is easily the hardest RPG I've ever played in my life.

FFIII on the PSN is a direct port of the iOS version (plus a couple minor extras like the option to use the original soundtrack instead of the rearranged version), which itself is a near direct port of the DS version.

And the difficulty of FFIV on DS is probably based on FFIV Hard Type. FFIV was originally released in two versions in Japan, Soft Type and Hard Type, the former supposedly being to attract a younger audience and the latter made to continue challenging fans from previous games. FFII (US) was Soft Type, but when it was rereleased in the US as part of Final Fantasy Chronicles for the PSX, they used Hard Type instead. I have no idea which version Complete is based on, though.

The man who knows largely useless trivia about the Final Fantasy series? You know it!

I played IV on the DS and I honestly didn't see why people thought it was so hard. It of course had its difficult parts but I can't remember it being the worst RPG I have played. The DS version is the only one I have played though so I can't compare it to previous versions.

You're probably better at videogames than I am.

Most people are, actually.

Lol, I doubt that. I am pretty terrible at video games half of the time. RPGs are my favorite genre though so maybe that's why. I did have the gall to go for the plat in Tales of Graces f.

Final Fantasy IV complete on the PSP is the definitive version.

FFVIII is NOT the best one to play first, lol. Play VI or VII first.

FFIV Complete is incredible.

I agree with Garion, VIII is amazing but a bad place to start.

Meh. VIII is where I started and it's the game that got me into gaming.

I could never beat Diablo GF or Cerberus GF in that game, and I'm pretty sure that the only way I actually beat that game was using a Gameshark or Action Replay.

It's a hard game. Of course I was hot off the heels of VII where I could just powerlevel or use Knights of the Round and decimate anything in the game.

Oskar2525 says:
That is awesome. VIII is definitely one of the best.

The best "early" Final Fantasy games are FF VII, FF IV, and FF Tactics (in my opinion). I have the FF IV Complete Collection for PSP and it is difficult, but not overly so.

I played games long before VIII but VIII was the game that really started my love for gaming. Beating Omega in VIII was one of my first proudest moments in gaming.

Was that the underwater one? That b*tch took me hours upon hours! But I got the Eden GF from it, and it was worth it.

Ugh, Guess I'm one of the few on here that hated every character in FF VIII. I wished not only the main character but every supporting character to just die. The story is just a 50 hr love story to top it off.

No, that was just Ultima. Omega was in the last dungeon in the game. He looked similar to Ultima but was about 10 times harder.

Eden was such an awesome GF for how much damage he could do but the video for it was too long.

Eden was Ultima Weapon.
