It's pretty obvious that tragedies, no matter how awful, don't do it. Or if they do it only lasts for a day at most before everyone starts finger pointing and looking for places to throw blame.

But do you think there's anything that could ever possibly bring us all together? Outside of some science fiction stuff like an alien invasion, I'm starting to think there isn't. And even then I bet there would be groups of people who would quickly side with them.

I like to think that the arrival of peaceful aliens would be the thing we need, but I don't know.
I can just as easily see groups of people being very hostile toward them and pissing them off so much they leave or fight back.

When you say "zombie aliens", do you mean dead aliens that come back to life as zombies or a race of beings from another planet that are also zombies?

Maybe if our plane crashed on a deserted desert island and we were forced to be together....Maybe

That depends. Would it be like Blue Lagoon or that Quantum Leap episode where the exact same thing happens?
Or *shudder*, that Guy Ritchie movie 'Swept Away'?

I don't think there is any one thing that could bring all of humanity together. After 9/11 there was a brief display of unity but even that night people were bitching that gas might go up to $3/gallon and whatever unity we had was gone in a few weeks.
