Pretty much anything can be used to kill. The big difference though is that a firearm actually is something that is specifically used to kill(not all the time of course but that's the ultimate use for one) whereas the other things you listed aren't.
I don't mind stronger gun control laws but the government needs to learn that guns really aren't the issue in this situation. The issue that the government needs to go after is mental health and how they can make the healthcare system better.
