Overall (as of this post):
Eurogamer Sweden-100
Gamereactor Denmark-80

I have to say I am quite surprised. I'm a little worried about the way EA is alienating their audience, though. Seriously guys, stop this!

Feel free to add and update this thread. Also, NO, I am not necessarily putting all my stock in Metacritic, but the amount of reviews the Metacritic page have are all useful.

EDIT: Wish I could change the title so is reads "Sim City Reviews". Surely there are reviews for the game that aren't factored into Metacritic worth posting.

I've never played a SimCity. How similar is it to Civ4 or 5?

If this is anything like the original ones from twenty years ago, I'd say they have very little in common, besides being in the vague "strategy" genre.

Okay, cool. I'm a novice to simulations. I played Civs for the city building.

I'm only familiar with the original and 2000 though, so it may have changed throughout the years but I'd be really surprised if the core changed THAT much.

This is a multiplayer game, right?

How weird is that, multiplayer Sim City.

Its really not anything like Civilization. You micromanage a city, trying to grow it while managing your income/costs while preventing fires and other disasters from wiping you out.

Civilization is much more simplistic in how you handle the individual city, though you have many more of them. Plus there's no army to build or anybody to attack in SimCity. And no research tree per se, though you do have to build up enough money and or/do certain things first to unlock some buildings. But for the most part its just a modern city you're dealing with and trying to build up.

Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately, according to reviews, EA screwed the pooch with this game somehow. Guess I'll wait until it's revised.

I hope they keep the FMV cutscenes they had in Simcity 2000 deluxe or whatever. Like they were supposed to be "slice of life" things from your citizens. The one that is just burned into my mind though was a really simple one. It was a women taking off her wedding ring and flushing it down the toliet. WTF are you supposed to take from that!? That her marriage fell apart because you were not keeping the roads in good condition?? That her husband cheated on her because the power grid was woefully ineffecient for the city's needs???

"That her husband cheated on her because the power grid was woefully ineffecient for the city's needs???"

What husband wouldn't cheat under those conditions?

I managed to play this game last night and plan on playing it more tonight. It honestly was great fun. Yea, the server/online only thing kind of blew when I could get in or got disconnected, but once the servers stabilize I don't see this being much of an issue. Anywho, the game is familiar to players of old SimCity games, but has a few new twists to keep it fresh. I really like how everything is connected via your roads. No more trying to build piping and power lines, everything flows through your roads. It might sound dumb at first, but after playing around with it it becomes an incrediably smart way of handling it. Also, you no longer make big green/yellow/blue squares and hope the citizens build from it. Now your zoning is also done from the roads you place down. It might seem like it is dumbed down a bit, but I thought it was a great way of changing it up without changing the fundamentals to it.

Also, the co-opish online portion is neat. I ran into some trouble in one of my citie and lost a lot of power. With little money, normally I'd be screwed. But now you can actually buy and sell power/water/sewage/coal/oil/ores/etc from your neighbors. It's pretty neat.

The fact that some of the maps you play can hold up to 16 cities is amazing. I will be on playing a ton tonight and then I will give my impression tomorrow. I only played the tutorial last night and didn't have time to play more.
