Any suggestions about any particular character I should start with or is it best left to me to discover? I have never really played an RPG so I don't know much about customization and stuff as such.

Definitely move slowly prankster. I think I tried to rush the level too much and it took me 10 hrs to beat. After that level, the game is awesome though. I would also reccomend not playing as a mage/sorcerer.

You should have upgraded the crap out of the winged spear I did and it was of great use the entire game being my main weapon.

I did my first playthrough as a temple knight and it worked great prankster.

Prankster says:
Ok so preferably not a mage/sorcerer. Temple Knight worked well. Move slowly. Heavy armour is not as important as being freely able to roll and run. This is good enough to start with I think.

Thanks guys. =) i'll keep bumping this thread whenever I need help.

Yeah and advance cautiously and take your time no rush.

StriderNeo15 says:
well if you are the Royal, you get a magic spell, soul arrow, that does crazy damage to everything early on in the game, and some nice items that regen your MP. The Royal also starts at the lowest soul level so while it's stats may not be as good as some others, it offers the most customization.

But pretty much pick whatever character you think sounds cool, one might be a little harder than another at the start but soon it wont make much difference.

I'd recommend not barbarian though, as they are naked and have a terrible weapon.

Prankster says:
It's bad enough they have a terrible weapon, they're naked too. The devs sure embarrassed that community. =P

Thanks strider.

np, I was a Temple Knight and it was cool, but I didn't like his starting weapon, thought from what I understand it is pretty powerful if you 2h it, I didn't know at the time heh.

Jose, I have a winged spear but have only upgraded it to +1 and then have found myself just liking the rapier more as a piercing weapon. The spear is nice since you can hold up the shield while using it, but I just like the speed of the rapier.

Is there any interlinking in MP and SP? As in if I gather some souls in MP does it help me in the SP? I am just curious because you mentioned grinding souls or something like that somewhere.

man When I was farming 4-2 Evacuate was the greatest thing ever.

and yeah I used Dragon Long Sword most of the game, Blueblood Sword is my main now and for the rest of my playing time though.

I didn't use any magic though, but in my NG+, which I'm not far in because I went on to other games, I started using some magic, mainly the weapon enchant spells, and man it made a big difference.

Prankster, if by SP you mean Strength Points, you will use souls to level up all your attributes, including Strength and Magic. But they are seperate attributes and must be leveled up as such.

StriderNeo15 says:
Oh you mean Multi-player and Single player?

the souls are the same for both, because they are basically the same thing hah.

you are online 100% of the time in Demon's Souls.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 15, 2010, 8:31:25 AM PDT
Prankster says:
No no I mean single player. What I meant was that is there something I achieve in multiplayer that helps me out in single player campaign?

StriderNeo15 says:
If you kill other players, you get their souls, which you use to level up.

if you help other players in their games, you get souls for killing the monsters and get your body back when you help them defeat a boss.

it's basically all souls in this game, weapons and armor you get from the sp.

Invading is so fun. Nothing like killing another man in one clean swipe! Lol

Prankster says:
Yeah, this was pretty confusing. I think i'll just fire up the game and try to understand as much as I can. Just one last question.

strider said it's like we are 100% online. So does that mean the multiplayer feature where you can see others playing in their world is them playing in the single player campaign or are they playing a dedicated multiplayer part of the game? I know this sounds stupid but I just got confused. =)
