Mortal Kombat. Some older kid up the street had it on Genesis, and a friend and I would go over to his house and watch him play.

Probably GTA 3. Just the craziness. "I can go kill a hooker and a cop!?" I don't recall of doing that before in a game.

Aku says:
I think it was WWF No Mercy. You could lay down a steel chair or stop sign, grapple a dude who was down and bash their head against it with an awesome CLANG CLANG CLANG.

Also the Cerebral Bore from Turok was pretty gruesome just from the sound effects and twitchy animation.

Probably Resident Evil. Blowing a guy's head up with a shotgun? Wow!

I also agree with GTA:3 in it's entirety. The violence, the hookers, everything about that game pushed some boundaries. Now though, it's just no big deal.

Skeleton Crew on Genesis. It was fairly standard shooter violence but then the last boss has blood shooting EVERYWHERE. I wasn't expecting it as a kid.

Chiller on NES was pretty shocking as a kid too.

First time? When actual blood spewed from the controller and a leg flew out of the tv screen. At that point, I KNEW games were actually real, man. F'ed up, let me tell you.

Were you, at that time on drugs of any kind?

Good question. I'll have to consult the game journal.

The Last of Us has been pretty shocking, and it makes violence look ugly as well.

Yeah, in that one trailer from E3 where the main character shoots the guy with a shotgun at the end of the video was intense.

I dont remember what game it was, but it was a Arcade game at a Mini Mart in town. It was a Fighting game. You could pull your opponents limbs off and fight with a chainsaw. There were Monsters you fought as.

I honestly can't remember, which is kind of sad. However, just this evening, I was quite disturbed by a scene of violence I experienced in Far Cry 3. That hasn't happened in a while.

The Last of Us does violence correctly I think. It makes you feel a bit uncomfortable watching it, so I think that shows they're doing it right.

Manhunt is the first game that I thought violence was too much. I played it when I was a teenager and wow, looking back, my mom should've never let me near that game lol. Just youtube a video or 2 of it (if they even allow that stuff on there). Slowly creeping behind a guy because the longer you stalk, the more violent your kill. You could use a plastic grocery bag to suffocate the life out of someone. Slowly. Or knock out someone's knees and wind up with a home run across the side of their head with a baseball bat. Vicious stuff.

Agree with you on the Last of Us. That's why it has the potential to be so powerful.

Mortal Kombat for sure. I remember not knowing anything about the gore going in. I was shocked seeing Kano heart rip.
