Who needs pro reviewers and gaming magazines (which i never paid attn to) when you have fellow gamers sharing their love for a particular title, especially the lesser well known titles scattered all across the gaming multiverse? At the risk of sounding a bit like our vgf's mascot MJM, wanted to give a shout out for getting me to play:

- Enslaved - enjoying the game immensely (ch5). love the setting (I am Legend + I-Robot, both Will Smith!), not to mention the origins of the story and how it's tied in a modern reimagination.

I picked up on the Scarf, the not quite flying Nimbus, the power pole. My wife, who's familiar with the original folklore beyond DBZ, picked up on the slaveband, Trip's symbol on her back ('scripture') and the character representations in general.

Coupled with a lil bit of Garden of Eden'esque bits of flashback memories reminding me of Assassin's Creed, this game + daylight saving = Worth the yawns come monday morning.

I wouldn't have tried Rage without the VGF informing me of the free rental deal at redbox. I wouldn't have bought it for $5 without the same VGF telling me about the current best buy deal. I really like that game.

I would have never played Nier if it wasn't for the opinions of a few people I trust on here who said it was a really good game and worth playing. They were absolutely right!

demon's souls

Umm... Shadows of the Damned, I think. Although Joystiq.com was really hyping it.

Actually, I think VGF was the reason I didn't Day One it, now that I think about it.

Technically I haven't played these yet, but I would never have purchased the following with the intent to play.

Neir
Enslaved
Alpha Protocol

Way to be a bad influence, guys.

Great game, for sure.

Games I can think of that the VGF has convinced me on - Demon's Souls and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Demon's Souls I thought was okay, Arkham Asylum was friggin' awesome, and I'm glad I was convinced. Thanks, VGF! I also wouldn't have spent the $2 that I did spent on Alpha Protocol either. Haven't played it yet. Oh, and Punk! sold me on Crysis 2, though I still haven't pulled the trigger. Just too many games at my disposal currently.

Heh, and if we get into games I purchased because someone in the VGF pointed out a deal...the list grows exponentially.

Athas you can sound like me all you want, actually you sound more like me then I do.

I know exactly what you mean, there are a lot of games I never would have played if not for my friends here at the VGF. Off the top of my head, some of those titles would be, Far Cry 2, Captain America: Super Soldier amd Yakuza 4.

A shout out to those who got me to Play Dark souls
RPG's come in many forms now a days
Mass Effect for their grand and Epic story's which are the main point of the game
Dragon Age 1 for their complete mix of inventory control, and story telling
Final Fantasy for their turn based combat which want the main focus of the game but still a notable feature
and then there is Dark souls with its intuitive coop and versus mechanic, great inventory management, amazing combat mechanic (not turn based), epic boss battles and Great story line that is all but hidden if you don't go looking for it. Dark Souls Took the cake for me.

The Mass Effect series. I was never a big fan of Bioware games so I had no interest in this series until I heard just about everyone here talk about how great ME2 is. I finally picked it up for the PS3 and loved it. Got the first for the 360 shortly after, and am now playing the third. It is now one of the best series I have ever played in my life.

Journey. I would've passed it off as another short PSN game, but man was it awesome.

Batman: AA
Two Worlds II
Oblivion
Ratchet & Clank: TOD & ACIT
The Sly Collection
Sonic Generations

Those are just off the top of my head. I am sure there are others. I am thankful for the VGF.

Oh, Kingdoms of Allamora: Recognasance probably wouldn't have gotten played if not for the VGF. That's one that works.

re: Alpha Prtotocol

I haven't gotten around to playing it yet, but I did buy this game basically b/c of VGF too. I remember AP because a guy at the store was heavily discouraging me from buying this game when I first expressed interest. But since then, I keep reading comments on VGF from reliable posters that they really enjoyed the game, so close to a year later, I bit the bullet.

Can't complain of the delay since I ended up getting the game $10 cheaper.

Alpha Protocol is definitely an underrated gem, and I am one of the VGF members that's always praising it.

Persona 3 and Uncharted....I had no ideah what Uncharted was before I entered the VGF.

This place is full of rabid sony fangirls foaming at the mouth at even a vague reference to it.

Posted on Mar 12, 2012, 9:21:22 AM PDT
I haven't played either yet, but I wouldn't have bought Duke Nukem Forever or Earth Defense Force Insect Armaggedon if not for this forum.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 12, 2012, 9:22:56 AM PDT
There we go. Now that's definately one I bought with no outside intervention from anyone besides VGF.

Almost half my gaming library to be honest because I was getting a console after 12-13 years and was only playing Sports games till then. The ones I'm most thankful for however are Demon's Souls, Mass Effect and BioShock. Thanks VGF :)

Demon's Souls.
I think it was also the VGF that helped me get Pixeljunk Eden but I think I might have heard praise for that game from a few sources. It was a co-op effort.

Dragon Age Origins, Uncharted .... Devil Survivor Overclocked. too many to list. sometimes threads of praise & discussion leads me to think I might want to check it out .... I've been pretty pleased with the opinions posted here. Journey .... reading what was said here inclined me to DL it & I am so pleased I didn't pass on the opportunity.
