I'm not talking about something you just heard but fades away in a couple weeks. I mean songs that five years after you heard it it will just pop in and you just don't know what brought it on.

I'm hanunted by
Metallica's Dirty Window
Tub Rings Dog Doesn't Bite (The last 18 seconds)

What songs haunt you?

Super Mario Bros. 3 theme. For some reason that song sticks with me and I'll always end up whistling it when I'm not paying attention.

Sisyphus says:
Yech... Our secretary has that as her ringtone and her phone rings godawful loud ten times a day. It makes me cringe.

mattfixit says:
"the ultimate melody - one that so compels the brain that its listener becomes completely and forever enraptured by it. As the storyteller, Harry Purvis, explains, Lister theorized that a great melody "made its impression on the mind because it fitted in with the fundamental electrical rhythms going on in the brain". Lister attempts to abstract from the hit tunes of the day to a melody which fits in so well with the electrical rhythms that it dominates them completely. He succeeds, and is found in a catatonia from which he never awakens."

Breeze says:
Drops of Jupiter by Train
Champagne Supernova by Oasis
6th Avenue Heartache by the Wallflowers
Communication Breakdown by Led Zeppelin
Someday by Sugar Ray
Little Busters by the Pillows
Ride on Shooting Star by the Pillows
Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega

Those songs would pop into my head all the time until I acquired them, except for Champagne Supernova which I have no intention of ever getting. Though, now that I think about it, I hadn't intend to get Someday either. Also, Fuka's theme from Disgaea 4, but that's only due to seeing it again a few days ago.

Here's another one.
Puddle of Mudd's She Hates Me. It's catchy, but in an annoying sorta way.

For weeks now, I've had one of the songs from Lunar Silver Star Story stuck in my head. You know, the one Luna sings during the intro(I think)? Not the "la la la la" one, the one with words. It seems to rotate with the overworld theme from Suikoden II, which I haven't played in years.

The past few days though, it's been replaced at least part of the time with The Pretender by Foo Fighters. Yay for mental variety!
