I've noticed that for the last month or so, they've been unavailiable from amazon. I was planning on getting one as a backup for when my launch model inevitably stops working, but I fear I may have waited too long.

I thought Walmart still had them.

I hope not, it's keeping Sony afloat right now.

You know what Tron, I find it amazing that the PS2 is around 12 years old and still being produced and still selling. That's one hell of an accomplishment especially knowing that this generation consoles have been out for years.

They're still making them. There may not be new releases (in terms of games), but they're still making them-since Sony got rid of the Backward compatibility for the PS3 they had to.

I was able to buy a PS2 from Amazon when they weren't technically in stock. It just took them like 3-4 weeks to get it for me. I just looked under the list of available sellers. This was about a year ago though when it seemed like my launch PS3 might bite the dust. Naturally it still works after I bought the PS2. Not sure if you can do this now.

Yep I agree. It was a great console. Especially if you're an RPG fan, as it offers some of the best RPGs you can find anywhere.

They were only $99 a short time ago. I thought of getting one as a backup.

T-Brisket says:
If only had a clue, they could have simply phased out PS2's and put BC in all PS3 units.

Presto PS3 sales would sky rocket. Yup I'm bitter I could get a BC PS3.

Guys don't talk bad about Sony right now. Their fanboys are pretty upset and will start whining in the thread of how they are being picked on.

Playing a PS2 game with a 360 controller should be considered a crime against humanity.
