I had been thinking of doing some retro gaming with Rogue Squadron 2 and 3 on a 2nd hand gamecube but read somewhere today that some GC titles are compatable with the WII, and also there is a virtual console shop where i could possibly buy N64 rogue squadron and 2 & 3 from the is it true? as i was thinking about buying the wii.

anyone with any experience?

The Wii does play Gamecube games but there aren't any Rogue Squadron games on the Virtual Console. To play all 3 you'd need an N64 for the first one and either a Gamecube or Wii for the second and third.

Thanks for the response! I'm primarily a PC gamer (have PS3 too) so not that educated in Nintendo. I had been hoping that a Wii could do all three, however owning a Wii opens up some interesting possibilities...

There was a rumor a couple years ago of the Rogue Squadron trilogy being re-released as a set for the Wii. Must not have been a very reliable rumor, though, because I've seen nothing else about it anywhere.

I have a feeling they will be re-released after the Wii U launch. If anyone has a super powerful PC, they could run Wii games in HD via Dolphin Emu, but you must own a copy of the original gamecube disc to legally do this & use a wireless sensor bar & bluetooth receiver. I have a fairly modern/fast pc but even it struggles to upscale to HD resolutions with the Emu so I will probably upgrade my video card at some point or more likely first attempt to overclock my CPU (once I'm more comfortable) since I don't want to repurchase these games. If they do re-release on Wii U, I don't think it will have updated graphics but should like better due to upscaling.

Fingers crossed they do get released. I have a high end PC but apparently no emulator runs the N64 version, or if it does its missing graphics here and there, something to do with the game engine they used. Haven't tried the GC emu. I will purchase a 2nd hand N64 console and one of the older Wii's in the near future. I am kicking myself for ever getting rid of my N64 and GC now.

I am so surprised that they haven't been rehashed with their popularity...

oh and recently I googled Rogue Squadron images and found a article that mentions they will be released soon, however it was 3 years old. Dam shame Factor 5 went under, they struck gold a couple of times and made some of the most memorable games in my gaming history of 25 years or so.

I'm sure someone holds the rights & maybe there was a legal challenge but I think the more likely scenario is that Nintendo wanted to use it as ammunition for its upcoming Wii U library. This was a super popular series & I'm sure it hasn't escaped their eyes. I don't know for a fact but I think maybe Nintendo commissioned (offered a bunch of $$) Lucas Arts for this series since they were Nintendo exclusives so I imagine they could possibly have some rights. I only played the N64 version once when i was in high school & thought the graphics were good but when I played the 2 GC versions I was blown away & thought the graphics were just as good as the movies. I've seen some of the SW games since released on other platforms & still think the majority of these can't touch the graphics of the 2 GC titles. you can purchase any Wii sold before late last year & at least play Gc versions--if you can find them used they are usually no more than $5--that's how i purchased mine.

Yes I think your right there. Heres hoping they soon release them with the WiiU.
I picked up a 2nd hand N64 for $30 (the average market price here in Aus) and a mint copy of Rogue Squadron for the same (ebay Australia), money well spent for some retro gaming fun. Will get a Wii next most likely..

And while they don't look special today the graphics on the GC versions was phenomenal!!

Happy gaming
