McCray's "Dark Lullaby" is a short story about a profiler named Kent that is hired to solve a mystery. After a game of Angry Birds and a romp through a sex club, he finds the real culprit. McCray peppers her writing with hip pop culture references and all of her characters have that confident swagger. A quick and entertaining read.
Ambush- Prequel short strory to the Betrayed Series (30 Pieces of Silver)
Ambush is the prequel to the Btrayed series. It introduces us to Sergeant Brandt and his military team. This team works so well together. Without each member this team would not be the well oiled machine that it is. This book just helps you understand what the team does and how well they work. You don't necessarly need to read it to be able to follow the next book, 30 Pieces of Silver. (I didn't read this till afterwards) Either way, it is a great read and helps mesh the books together, well!
Anatomy- The prequel short story to the Harbinger Murder Mystery Collection (Plain Jane)
I wouldn't skip over the book Anatomy by any means. It gives you insight into the main characters in the following book, Plain Jane. Anatomy was actaully pretty good. It was faced paced. Very insightful in how the characters meet and start to mesh. I was actually hoping that there was more to it. Then I started the next book in the series and my thoughts and dreams were answered.
Hacked- the prequel short story to the Robin Hook Hacker Collection (Encrypted)
This is the prequel to the beginning of the Robin Hood Hacker series. In this short introduction story, we learn of Ronnie, Quirk, Warp and Zach. We learn some back story to Zach and his relationship with his mom and fiance. We also learn how he is hell bent on catching the Robin Hood Hacker. Excellent short story to warm you up to the big book that follows...Encrypted.
Gauntlet- the prequel to All Hallow's Eve: The one night it is Bad to be good...
We are introduced to Ruth and Paxton. This is short story is about how the two detectives meet. We are getting an insight of how the two work together. This is the very first day the two have to deal with. Paxton has been through several parters prior to Ruth. So, he isn't ready or prepared for her to become his new side kick. Only thing he doesn't understand, he needs her to help crack the next several cases they stumble upon.
Devious- the prequel short story to the Darc Mrder Mysteries (9th Circle)
I didn't quite know what to think about this book in the beginning. It didn't take long to be hooked.
Darc and Trey are the dynamic detective duo of Seattle. We learn from this book how they became this wonderful, dysfunctional crime fighting team.
It's a great prequel to the most disgusting, gruesome, craziest book I've ever read!
The Rush- the prequel short story to MoonRush
Just finished "The Rush." Set in the future of 2049, the world has changed some. At least we have hover cars! We also have star diamonds that are found on the moon. Mia accidentally discovers that a body scanner she developed to read human emotions, also is able to detect these rare diamonds. Now what is she going to do with her new invention?
Great lead into the 15 chapter book The MoonRush.
The MoonRush: The pulse-pounding near future adventure!
This book is totally different than what Ms. McCray typically pens. Set in the future, there are star diamonds on the moon. Now people are rushing to "pan" for these. Problem is, the is corruption and foul play. People are being killed. Bombs going off on the Space Station. Now it's up to Jarod and his Rogue team to try and figure this out.
As I said, this is a different style of book that what McCray normally writes. However, it is not one that will disappoint.
Carolyn McCray is the best female thriller action writer I have read.
