Make sure its a printer that has WiFi capability. Since the chromebook only does cloud print. Your home WiFi network will be the server. Both the chrome book and the printer when connected to the home WiFi will enable cloud print.

It doesn't have to be wifi, as you don't connect directly over wifi to it - it has to be connected to the internet, however.

See, for a classic printer with a controlling PC/Mac:

and for a Cloud Print Ready printer:

Both of my legacy (non-wireless) printers are connected to a PC attached to my home network (via a 7 port wireless router). I can use either of the printers from my ChromeBook via Cloud Print.
