This Bible is an adult Bible with a children's cover over it. It is not the inside of the Bible that makes it unique to children but the packaging. The Bible comes in your standard blue, green, yellow, red version or a girly purple and pink version. The Glipit Bible comes with just over 120 little pieces, including a glow in the dark cross. These pieces lock into place fairly easily. The Bible does not provide a place to store the pieces not in use other than on the Bible itself. I can easily see moms having to hunt down the tiny pieces in the plush church pews, chairs, and carpets.
Since it is a compact Bible, the pages are VERY thin and would tear easily if a child young enough to enjoy the cover were to use it. The packaging specifically states that it is designed for children 8 years old and above, and yet I do not see many 12 year olds wanting to carry this Bible.
Overall, the outside is too young and the inside is too old for the targeted age range. I rate this Bible a C+. It is a Bible and God's Word is perfect, but I think there need to be some alterations (like a way to store the pieces) before it will be widely popular.
I received this book free from the publisher through the Bethany House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255
The bible itself is a compact version of the New Living Translation. Because it's small, the print is also small, which is not the easier for a beginning reader. But it's just so cute! I did notice when I stored the bible some of the glipits had a tendency to fall off, but they're pretty easy to find and you don't have to worry about stubbing your toe on them in the middle of the night. I would say that at best it's a novelty gift, not a study type bible. It reminds me of an updated version of the pink zippered bibles that were popular in the 80's.
Overall, I like it. I really liked the line on the packaging (which I can't find) that said you change the outside of the bible while God's word changes your inside.
Tyndale House Publishing provided me with a complimentary copy of this bible for my honest review.
