Have your wife stand barefoot and measure from the floor up the back of her leg 7 1/2 inches. That is how tall the boots are. At the top the boot measures 10 1/2 inches around. Measure your wife's leg at that point. I think they would be just fine as they don't come to the calf. Good luck. Do NOT be fooled by these! They advertise an 8W <<(exactly like this) and I bought them in the short boot, even though I dont wear a wide width shoe. I wanted to be able to get them off and on with ease! Well, the 8W ended up coming and I immediately saw W8 on the bottom (which MEANS WOMEN'S 8) ! Put them on and they fit like a glove. One of those tight stretch gloves. Problem is, rubber isn't stretchy!! As soon as my foot swelled the tiniest bit, OMG, I had a FIGHT on my hands to get these off! It ALMOST came down to me cutting them off!!! Don't slip these on really quick without socks if they "fit". I had them on for 10 min max, and when I attempted to take them off, one of them stuck to the top of my foot skin and like I said, almost had to cut it off to free myself. Instead I ended up pulling and hurting myself. These boots are entirely TOO narrow at the ankle and don't give at all for taking off. Gave them to my ten year old and they just barely fit! see less Do NOT be fooled by these! Answer:
These are 'non-marking' soles and should be suitable for sailing. I wear them to work when it's raining and they haven't marked up the floor in our office and when everyone is tracking rain puddles in, I don't slip. They grip the floor well.

I wear an 7.5 to an 8. I ordered an 8. They give me plenty of room in the toes but are way to tight on the sides. And I don't particularly have wide feet. So much for gardening or working in them. I am sending them back. I thought about ordering a 9 but I fear that they will still be too thin. Hope this helps. see less I wear an 7.5 to an 8.
