Push down like you would child proof pill bottle it’ll then see that clear seal in place and you’ll be able to twist it off. Also make sure lil air vent is up when opening.

Sounds like you might have a vacuum inside your carafe. You didn't state which carafe, the serving or brewing. If the brewing, then opening the orange tab in the lid should break any vacuum seal. When you first open the box you will find the cup inside the filter section of the brewer along with the instructions.
