No, on mine the lid fit is perfect and the unit contains an “inner” lid that keeps most air out and keeps the spices fresher longer. Very happy with my unit especially considering others that cost much more.

I can’t say what the gauge of the stainless steel is but I can say it’s been robust enough for us as we use it everyday.

Answer:
They can be moves around but one you have them in the order you prefer they sty in place. Lid is firmly in place so it will not come off until you require it to.
