Backlit keyboard is a plus, love how light the entire laptop is for me. Screen quality is really decent too. Touchpad on mine is great but I hear that the quality can vary a little, so you may want to use a mouse instead if you're doing anything serious. The build is plastic but doesn't feel at all cheap, though the build around the screen is a little iffy. Someone mentioned poking the bottom center of the plastic frame around the screen and it does indeed bend out, so this may be troublesome in the future. The 12 hour battery seems a stretch and may hold true if put on power save mode and you're not doing anything more than some light work ... I'd estimate the mark is closer to 6-8 hours for things like video streaming, probably closer to 4-6 on gaming.
I bought the version with the i5 CPU, and I imagine with the i7 one could do quite a bit more without taxing the system. Something to consider if you're willing to drop an extra $100 on it, but you could probably find a different system that works better at a similar price point once you hit that range.
5 months later edit: The system still runs flawlessly despite my gaming on it. The only gripe I have about it at this point is the speaker placement, with each one being located on the bottom (yes, bottom!) of the laptop on either side, so the sound gets muffled and isn't very loud. It does run a little hot sometimes now which probably necessitates getting a better cooling pad than the one I currently had, but I'm still satisfied with this purchase.
3ish years on? I don't even know: So due to heating problems I had to buy a Opolar Laptop Cooler to remedy the overheating that occurred about a year after I bought this. I can't tell if it was from my gaming using the keys primarily or due to the heat, but several of the left-hand keys around the WASD area stopped working entirely without EXTREMELY heavy pressure, and even then that doesn't work sometimes, so I had to buy an external keyboard. Basically, buy that cooler if you're intending to buy this laptop and game on it like me.
*** Update: Very disappointed in this laptop now and can't recommend it except to the simplest of users who will stay with Windows 10 and not run virtualization software. The BIOS version 1.18 doesn't support processor virualization so I can't run virtualization software such as Virtual Box or VMWare. This is supposed to be a modern laptop...come on Acer, what is wrong with you releasing a laptop like this with no virtualization support? My two other Acer laptops I bought in 2013 have virtualization support...are you moving backwards?? Also, it won't support Windows 8.1 OS for NVidia graphics? Really? Wow, I went from ecstatic on this machine to very disappointed. It had everything I wanted...Full HD screen, NVidia graphics, 32GB RAM DDR4 2400 RAM capability, back-lit keyboard, hard drive expand-ability, etc. - it was going to be my "everything" laptop. But now I can't run virtualization software, it's a deal breaker for me.
Please contact me Acer Support if you can release an updated BIOS version to support processor virtualization before my return window is closed. Thanks.
Acer got it right with the design on this one. I don't have to take the whole back off to upgrade the memory or hard drive. Also, there is an empty slot for a hard drive, so wow, I'm impressed. Makes upgrading this very simple. I have 32GB of memory and another SSD in it now. However, I hate Windows 10 and always downgrade to Windows 8.1 on all of my machines. The problem is that this laptop is only supported for Windows 10. Even after downloading the NVidia graphics driver from both Acer and NVidia (the Acer driver states specifically it is for only Windows 10 so obviously it failed - and the NVidia driver I downloaded from NVidia site is for Win 8.1), the OS can't find the NVidia graphics card and loads Intel Graphics 520 automatically. I don't know why it's doing this. It should be simple to load the Win 8.1 driver from NVidia but it won't work for some unknown reason. Other than that, it's a great laptop and I would recommend it to everyone, especially if you love Windows 10.

Every review was 5/5 which got me very interested in getting this laptop, and I was quite interested in computers/ laptops in general. On purchase I didn't have to wait long and it arrived in no time at all.
Alright enough rambling, time for the good stuff :b. This laptop is incredible for anything that you want it to do, typing documents or powerpoints, no problem at all. Gaming was one of my favourite things to do on my old laptop which could only run games at 55fps+ on the lowest settings and resolution (640 x 480), this laptop leaves the old one in the dust by a mile. Every game I've played on high settings have always been 60fps+ from CS:GO, TF2, Warframe, the list would goes on with a few more games I play occasionally. I was worried about the 256 GB SSD size at first as everything I had on my old laptop with only 500GB HDD took up around 290GB of space, but I never new that the SSD would make the laptop and everything installed on it faster! Start up time after switching the laptop off completely takes as long as 5-7 seconds which is insane because it saves so much time compared to long start up times, browsers and programs such as Skype or Steam load up shortly after the desktop has been loaded (4 seconds for skype, 8 for steam), and loading up any programs which take about 10-15 seconds to load completely take only up to 6 seconds at most.
Furthermore, I was able to find out that there is an extra SSD SATA slot under the bottom cover when unscrewed. This was very helpful as I now know that I can purchase another SSD drive and install it to increase my overall space. Aside from the extra SSD slot, there is also an extra RAM slot, only 1 is take up by an 8 GB Kingston card which allows upgrading up from 8 GB easier.
Overall, this is a great laptop for everyday use, the battery life is also very high (says it's 12 but I can get 8 at most of battery saver is on and only working on Word), and the price is very reasonable. If you have around £550-£650, this is the laptop for you.
