Worth it for the case alone

- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2018this thing is fun and easy to setup thanks to noobs software. No problems with power as others have stated. For those coming from a laptop or desktop computer this is not an equal nor should it be compared to. This is responsive and easy to operate. I think this would make a great emulator game machine or media center for tv viewing with the right software installed. overall very pleased with this purchase and would buy one again (I already bought a second one for my grandson for xmas). there some downsides the ethernet speed is slower than most full size pc,s , the sound is adequate through hdmi haven't used the audio port yet , the video is adequate for what it is again not going to rival full size pc,s. all in all its a good buy for a gaming machine or media center just not a rival to a full size pc. The aluminum case is great acts as a heatsink for cpu internet and memory. thanks for a great kit with quality componants to make this as easy as can be. Now I just can,t wait for raspberry pi 4 to release with hopefully better cpu ,ram , video and sound.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2018This is my 2nd case like this. The first was for the 3B model and by a company called BIQU. This is really the same case as that, but for the 3B+.
I look at this case as the same as everything else within the raspberry pi world: a project. With a little effort and care it can be the best thing out there, but for the people who don’t give that effort it’ll probably just be an annoyance.
When I got my case it wasn’t perfect. The Pi wouldn’t fit into the case. Upon inspection the casting for the hole for the 3.5mm AV jack was poorly done. It had a little lip that needed to be reamed out for the Pi to fit. Rather than complain I grabbed a flathead screwdriver, shoved it in there, and twisted. Cleaned that baby right out in about 5 seconds and the Pi then dropped right in.
The other mod that I did was I sanded down the ends of the 3 “legs” that come into contact with the chips. I do this to remove the paint and expose the bare aluminum for better heat transfer. That took a whopping 5 minutes.
I know this might seem unacceptable to some people because it’s not perfect out of the box, but what is with the Pi? Seriously. People buy the Pi to have a project.
This is my favorite case on the market. I went through 3 of those crappy fans from other cases before I gave up on active cooling. To my knowledge this case is the only passive cooling case that touches all 3 chips. It’s also a discreet black which I love. I have one on my desk at work and nobody questions it.
The cooling is superb. My 3B+ Runs 24/7 as my PiHole and I’ve had no problems. Not a hint of overheating. The whole case gets warm. And if you wanna watch something cool, stick something cold on top of it to draw the heat out. As the case cools you can watch your Pi cool too.
Power supply seems to be fine. Upon boot I get 3-5 seconds of a low voltage warning, but it goes away after that. I don’t have an explanation for that.
It’s silent, cools well, and is discreet. That’s everything I need, even if it does take a whopping 5 minutes to make it perfect. And it’ll never break or draw extra voltage like those stupid little fans on other cases. 5 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2019The case alone would cost $20. It's cast metal, and has "fingers" that contact the hot chips on the RPi, so the entire case is the heat sink. They provide thermal compound and a spreader, but you really don't need it. Even under load, the Pi runs at about 58C. I didn't think the inline switch on the power supply would be useful, but I've found that I used it several times to avoid plugging and unplugging during setup. One of the things folks may not know about the 3B+, is that you don't need a microSD. You can write the system image to a thumb drive, and the Pi will happily boot off that, out of the box. Overall, a great kit and a very good price considering the quality of the add-ons.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2019I purchased this kit to make a Pi-hole for my parents network.
I needed a case that was wall-mountable, and wanted something that would keep nice and cool.
This kit works great, but if you want to squeeze all the cooling performance you can out of it, you'll need to sand the paint off of the heat sinks that make contact with the CPU and memory. I also shined a flashlight into the case and noticed there was a sizable gap between the heatsink and the CPU. I ended up making a copper shim out of a penny which had to be sanded down to about .030 thick, and using Arctic Silver 5 for the thermal paste. The end result is a nice and cool Pi! It's almost amazing on how warm the case will actually get when running CPU intensive tasks.
As far as the Raspberry Pi goes, this is my first B+ model. I ended up going the Ubuntu route and had to do a little make shift work to get it working correctly as they don't currently have an image released that supports the B+ as of this review. I also was able to upgrade Ubuntu to 18.04.2 LTS on kernel 4.14.62-v7+ armv7l.
Running as a headless unit, it is quite snappy for general tasks.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2019I bought this to setup a retro pie for my brother similar to my own, but wish I had ordered this model for myself! The case is a solid metal construction that also acts as a heatsink drawing heat away from the board. Very nice and simple feature. It even comes with a tiny syringe of paste to add to the processors to help transfer the heat, but the instructions mention that this is entirely option as the case will still pull some heat away without it. The power supply is also of good quality, and I love the on/off switch it includes so you don't have to constantly unplug the cable to control power like my old model has. I'm so happy with this bundle I'm eyeing up their Raspberry Pi Zero bundle for a Pi-Hole build. Unfortunately it looks like that bundle doesn't come with the metal case...

- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2019Everything that came in the kit was high quality and just worked. The case is simple but clever and should provide decent cooling and great protection. The power supply with the switch near the Pi is another nice feature. Amazing to have a complete computer in a device the size of a deck of cards!
