More About the Authors
M. G. Herron
M. G. Herron
My full name is Matthew Gilbert Herron. I was born in 1988 and go by Matt among my friends. Books and reading have always been close to my heart. I love epic fantasies and fast-paced action adventure novels. I love literature, the dusty vanilla smell of old paperbacks, and turns of phrase that make your skin prickle.

My love of writing, particularly the art of writing fiction, grew more slowly. I wrote a couple stories when I was young, but never took writing seriously. I spent a more time playing video games, building websites, and getting into trouble instead. When it was time to go to college, I moved to Hamilton, Ontario (already ranging out from home as far as I could) and attended McMaster University to study Computer Science. It only took a couple of miserable semesters before I switched majors. After a few years, I graduated with a Bachelor's in English Literature (2009).

The wanderlust is strong in me. For two summers between years in college, I guided inflatable rafts down the whitewater of the Yellowstone River. After I graduated college, I spent three years traveling around Europe and Asia (my favorite destination: Granada, Spain). I practiced my Spanish and learned a little German. I waited tables on the side and learned to sport climb the sandstone towers of the Pfälzerwald (Palatinate Forest) in Germany.

By 2012, however, I had realized that it was time to get serious about this whole writing thing. I returned to the United States and moved to Austin, TX to become a freelance writer. In a little detour, I became a project manager at a digital agency, where I managed over $1 million in digital projects in 3 years and spoke at SXSW Interactive. Now, as a freelance content strategist, I've returned to my writing roots. I consult with tech startups and small businesses on writing, editing, and marketing.

In 2015, I published my first science fiction novel as M. G. Herron, The Auriga Project, a tale of two lovers separated by a galaxy, an uprooted ancient people, and mysterious alien overlords. A technical nonfiction title for writers, Scrivener Superpowers, was released a few months later, in January of 2016.

Now, I'm working on my third book, a sci-fi adventure called Tales of the Republic, and indie publishing short fiction.

In Austin, I also put together local talks and events for writers through the Indie Author Society, an organization for indie authors that I started on Meetup.com.

I live in Austin, TX with my girlfriend and our dog, where I like to spend the cooler days rock climbing in the shade of the local limestone cliffs.
