More About the Authors
Rashid Darden
Rashid Darden
Rashid Darden is a novelist. He was born in the late 1970s in Washington, DC, where he has spent his entire life, save for brief stints in Moscow, Russia and Leicester, United Kingdom.

Rashid's first three novels are a trilogy consisting of Lazarus (2005), Covenant (2011), and Epiphany (2012). Each novel was published by Old Gold Soul Press to critical acclaim. The novels told the collected stories of Adrian Collins, a gay college sophomore who pledges a predominately black fraternity; how he deals with the cycle of hazing; and how he navigates both family and romantic relationships. The books resonated deeply with many in the African American, LGBT, and fraternal communities, earning Rashid fans that span the generations. A companion volume of poetry entitled The Life and Death of Savion Cortez was released in 2011.

In 2006, Rashid was one of just two awardees in Literature at the Clik Magazine Honors. (The other awardee was E. Lynn Harris.) In 2007, an interview with Rashid was published in Carry the Word: A Bibliography of Black LGBT Q Books.

Rashid's next novel is Birth of a Dark Nation (2013), the first in the Dark Nation series, the stories of African vampires brought to America during the transatlantic slave trade.

Rashid is a member of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and serves as the National President of Gamma Xi Phi Professional Arts Fraternity. His passion for service has been recognized through numerous awards, including Greek Man of the Year 2013 from the Greek Tweak, an Alumni Vision of Excellence Award from the Georgetown Black Student Alliance, and a Guardian Angel Award from Words, Beats, & Life.

Rashid's writing, professional stints in the education and nonprofit sectors, and volunteer service have made him a sought-after guest speaker and workshop facilitator.

When he is not writing, Rashid enjoys photography, Tarot reading, and volunteering. Though he enjoys the quietude of home best of all, he can also be found enjoying probate shows, Thai food, live music, and any bookstore.
