4.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced, but good, February 11, 2014

Thorough and fascinating. Piqued my interests and made my CB class very interesting. The price tag is obscene, though, and downright cruel to charge broke college students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeously written, and timeless, February 11, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Truly deepened the way I see art. I can hardly notice this was written in the seventies (although the videos that coincide with this book are a reminder). Perfect touches of prose and wit, with plenty of moments that make you pause to think. Eye-opening, and a great read. Every art-lover should own this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my taste, February 11, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Not poorly written, but the editing was a little lax-- I cringed at some of the grammar mistakes. Perfect for people who want their literary porn to be more "down", but to the Black ladies (like me) who don't really like the use of AAVE during sexytimes, it's kind of a turn off. Perhaps I just like a little more dimension, punch, prose, and wit in my erotica. This is perfect for people who just want to cut straight to the bonin', though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light, smells good, works. Ding!, February 11, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I only took off a star because the first ingredient is petrolatum, a suspected carcinogen-- not organic at all! Ingredients are listed by how much is in the product, so I was relieved to see the second ingredient is coconut oil. After using this product for a year I can say it's definitely effective. My hairdresser asked me if I was pregnant because I had so much new growth after skipping a few touch-ups! Has a sweet, light fragrance and melts like butter when I put it on my scalp. Not too oily, either.

I compared this to the Argan Oil leave-in, which doesn't even have argan oil in the first six ingredients, and the castor oil, which people are saying is too heavy and weirdly scented. I decided on this one, and I'm glad I did. If Blue Magic could just take out the petroleum, it would be perfect :)

Communication: A Critical/Cultural Introduction
Communication: A Critical/Cultural Introduction
by John T. Warren
Edition: Paperback
111 used & new from $0.01

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Comprehensive, May 5, 2013
I am a student who just finished taking a university-level communications course that used this book. By far, I have to say this textbook is the best one I have seen, and I plan on buying a copy for my own personal reading collection! It's a must-have. The book touches on race and gender and their roles in culture and communication amazingly well, and acknowledges that there is a lot wrong with our society and picks apart many of these things. To be honest, the book isn't abstract at all and walks you through the concepts one by one without talking down to you or being confusing. If it's abstract to you, that means you're either small-minded or not paying close enough attention. I think this book should be required reading in colleges, and possibly even required reading in high schools (with appropriate supplementary materials.)

4.0 out of 5 stars They taste awesome, they're gluten free, pretty cheap too, March 20, 2013

I like to add an egg and fry it in the oil before adding the noodles and water. Bit of sriracha, too. Order shipped WAY faster than I expected, I ordered over the weekend and it arrived on Monday morning. The price was fair...but the only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 is because I paid 20 cents more per package ($0.94) compared to what I've paid for them in stores ($0.75-ish.) That's pretty much my only qualm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, November 25, 2012

When My Chem were working on this album, I remember them mentioning they wanted to go back to their earlier sound, in a way. Of course, this is the album that ended up turning into Danger Days, and all of us fans have heard the crappy audience recordings of these tracks on Youtube (shows at The Roxy, 2010.) You can clearly hear a Danger Days twang to the tracks.

I am pleased to say both tracks are a happy medley of Danger Days with a more jagged Revenge/Bullets flavor. Sadly, I can see why the band scrapped them-- they don't quite have the teeth or chaotic-ness that the boys tend to go for. Regardless, they're a great listen even if they aren't as earwormish or angsty as the first two albums. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Just off the key of reason...and better that way. :), November 7, 2010
This review is from: Neo Ned (DVD)
I thoroughly loved this movie, and fortunately the ENTIRE film is posted on Youtube-- I'll be buying it regardless, though. I just finished watching it, and the movie's ending is so bittersweet and selfless that if you don't feel SOME kind of pang, you have the heart of a gargoyle.

I would lapse into a synopsis, but it's been covered pretty accurately by other reviewers. I must say, pairing a skinhead with a black girl who thinks she's Hitler and putting them in a mental hospital is sheer maddened genius.

Gabrielle Union still looks gorgeous sans makeup, even with unkempt hair. Her acting is marvelous, as always. Jeremy Renner's a lovely bit of eye candy, and his acting's quite the bonus. Both characters are screwups, but in a way that says it's okay to be messed up, it's okay to be broken. The acting is superb. Sure, the language is pretty coarse and the sex scene was a bit odd, but overall this is a highly original film in a category all its own. The film is reminiscent of Fight Club, A Bronx Tale, Napoleon Dynamite, and a lot of other things. It's awkward and blunt, in a good way, regarding the performances and the cinematography. It's a shame it wasn't released in theaters.
