1.0 out of 5 stars HOW TO FIX THE SPRAYER HEAD, July 31, 2016
Inside the bottle, note the small hole in a molded platform.

The red pick-up stub must go into that for the design to function.

Line up the red pickup stub with the hole and -- PUSH DOWN on the head to close it.

"Align to Close" on the bottle implies that the head should be turned. Don't. Snap the head in place with downward force.

1.0 out of 5 stars Extreme Danger -- Don't Get the Wrong Edition!, June 25, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Twelve Caesars (Paperback)
I wanted the Penguin Graves translation, which is marvelous and was left on a train. I accidentally bought the preposterous edition with 12 photos on the cover (see my attached photo). The error is easy to make, since the 180 Amazon reviews refer not to various editions but to the work itself. The edition I accidentally chose is by an obscure translator, produced Print-0n-Demand, and in fact available free at Gutenberg Project. The format is that of "Suetonious for Dummies." The font is absurdly small and each line run 15-18 words, making it impossible to read. Just a disaster of book design. To survive Amazon policy of conflating reviews, use "Look Inside the Book" to confirm the intended publisher.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... voice over for home movies and wanted to get better at it, April 18, 2016
I bought Joe Cipriano's book at a book signing because I do some amateur voice over for home movies and wanted to get better at it. But I think what I really learned from this wonderfully enthusiastic and encouraging book is that your voice is what you are, and who you are. Five stars for finding something you're good at, doing it so well, and pointing the way for others!

5.0 out of 5 stars Four in ONe Deal, April 15, 2016
I bought this collection of Lewis novels at a bookstore reading by the author. He is really, really good (see my review of Meritocracy, published 10 years go now). Four Lewis novels are contained here, a whole world of the novelists imagination. The physical book is a delight to hold and read and I wish more literary fiction was available like this.

This review is from: Meritocracy (Hardcover)
Meritocracy is a great introduction to the work of Jeffrey Lewis--I have read all of his books, and in a world of mindless plot and cardboard people he has the real novelist's eye and ear. You think of Robertson DAvies, or even Vargas Llosa, writers who show us what we are missing in the world in front of our nose, and show us who we are by seeing us plain. Throw Updike in there, too, although Lewis is never precious or constrained but a voice of entertaining reason-- even when his characters are unreasonable. Novels are personal, and I like it when a novelist leads you to their characters, and themselves, with a sure hand and without guile or contempt. One complaint--no Kindle editions of Lewis. There should be, not everybody wants a handback.

Very tough to translate, as Kaufman proves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Weld, the Inspiration, March 10, 2016
Phil Weld was an example for us all. Courageous in war, determined at sea, and genuinely interested in the people around him. Moxie, the boat, broke new ground, but like all Newick designs never broke. "Moxie" is anexcellent book by an inspirational figure who died too young at age 68.

4.0 out of 5 stars his appositional phrases can pile up like a train wreck, May 29, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The First Folio edition fulfilled my need for a larger typeface. My previous version was the three-volume paperback. This eight-volume edition is much easier to read, well bound, and pleasant in the hand. I gave a four-star rating only because the frequency of Gibbon's entertaining footnotes have been much reduced, and I don;t know which are missing. Can't say those in Greek or Latin are much of a loss, but still....

I have been advertising Gibbon for years as yet another lesson in the written English language, touting clarity and aggressive use of vocabulary and generally robust expression. But this time through, I dunno. Many of his paragraphs, when examined, are far from clear and rife with circumlocution and tortured attempts to avoid declaration. Even for the time, his appositional phrases can pile up like a train wreck. He is a champion of "former" and 'latter", the former being that which came 50 words earlier, and the latter being that which came 36 words prior, with the former always being antecedent to the latter and the latter coming after the former, thank goodness, etc.

Still, he's a pleasure to read. Would it be a crime against the original to put paragraphs in? Why do I have a friend with degrees from Harvard and Harvard law, who, having read the entirety of Gibbon, now claims with a small smile not to remember anything of it? There's something to that, I find as well. Scribble, scribble, scribble, eh Mr. Gibbon?

Good edition, though, and a bargain at $100.

3.0 out of 5 stars I think some reviews here may refer to other, ..., May 29, 2015
NOTE: Not the same as Rule-Mate 1500 GPH Fully Automated Bilge Pump.

I think some reviews here may refer to other Rule models. The RM1500 has a traditional float switch inside the case. Turn the pump upsidedown and you can hear it click as it turns on the impeller. If the internal float fouls with debris, unscrew the base and clean it. It works mechanically, as any basic float switch does.

The names are confusing and Amazon often conflates similar product reviews.
