The Embattled Road (Military Romantic Suspense) (Lost and Found)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous prequel!, July 1, 2016

The Embattled Road is a fabulous prequel to Madden's Embattled series about a handful of US Marine veterans who band together after their retirement or medical discharges from the military. It ties three male protagonists together, telling us how they were injured in Afghanistan and how the three of them bonded at Walter Reed hospital to form a lasting friendship. Well written, and obviously well researched, with gritty scenes of battle that will make you cringe. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful historical!, June 13, 2016

Ashley York has crafted a wonderful and realistic account of eleventh century life in Ireland and England during and after the Norman conquests. Her knowledge of the subject matter is obvious in regard to the story. These characters are well developed, coming to life within each paragraph, page, and chapter. Seventh Son would be better served read in the series order, rather than stand alone. This is the final story of the series and a multitude of story lines with an impressive and vast cast of characters are tied up in a nice, neat package. It became slightly confusing for me, as I'd only read book 3 of the series regarding Sean and Thomasina's characters. Even then, the admirable way in which Ms. York wraps up each and every story, leaving no loose ends, is astounding. Especially with such a complex and impressive cast of characters. This series is well-worth reading from start to finish, taking the time to savor each one like a mouthful of full-bodied wine.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quick Delightful Read!, June 5, 2016

This review is from: Gertrude's Grace (Kindle Edition)
Gertrude is a bumbling mess in a world where grace or lack of can make or break a young lady's reputation. She secretly longs for the handsome and well connected Lord Chatterton, but knows better than to expect a match with him. No one is more surprised than she is when he begins to take notice of her. Chatterton is a man on a mission...One that is bound to make his snobbish and aristocratic mother raise her nose in distaste.

What an absolute delight of a story! Jaimey Grant has captured the essence of dear Gertrude, as well as the man whose interest she manages to tweak, despite her clumsiness. It's a beautifully written novella that will leave you with a smile on your face. Well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun filled ride!, June 4, 2016

Faced with the prospect of selling her dad's old hippie bus, Rose, an author, decides to take one last road trip in it to gather research for a book she's writing She calls her two best friends to take the journey with her... the rich but slightly slutty Kat, whose rich, womanizing ex-husband left her with money to throw around, self esteem issues, and a deep distrust of anything with a penis...and the decidedly more proper, slightly prudish Jenny, (except when it comes to cowboys) still grieving the loss of her husband two years earlier. They meet new friends, like the enlightened wild child CB, and Fergus, a huge stray dog they either fall in love with, or at least tolerate.

Pieces of Us is the fabulously fun, first book of Lisa Miller. As a self proclaimed dialogue whore, I adored the snappy, gritty banter between these ladies, even though it happened so quickly at times that I lost track of who was talking, and whose POV it was in. That aside, I couldn't wait to keep turning pages to see what trouble these ladies could get into next! What a fun read! Fabulous job for a first time author and I can't wait to dive into book 2 of this series. I'd give it a solid 4 and 1/2 stars, but Amazon doesn't allow for that. Well done, Ms. Miller!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulously Crafted Story, June 2, 2016

Cherie Claire has written a beautifully crafted story centering on one family of Acadian exiles and the man who's been an extension of their family for over a decade.

Premise: French families have left France for eastern Canada, a land called Acadia, and thrived as a community. They are happy there, free to practice their Catholic faith while working hard to develop the land through a complex system of dikes, into the most fertile farmland on the North American continent. Along come the English government, who decide they want the fertile lands for themselves. They call a meeting of all the men in the communities...fathers , husbands, and other leaders...locking them inside buildings until the English military see that they're shipped off along the eastern coastline of the Americas, mercilessly separating the women and children from the heads of households.

Thirteen years later, Emile Gallant, along with her mother and two sisters, still wait for their father and husband's return. Emilie does the best she can as the oldest, and most headstrong of Joseph and Marianne Gallant's three daughters. Her best friend since childhood, Lorenz Dugas, has been a part of their family since losing all of his family during "le grand derangement". Emilie loves Lorenz as much as he loves her, but when he proposes marriage, she turns him down. She's terrified that his bitterness, anger, and impetuous ways will only bode ill for their relationship, and she doesn't want to spend half of her life pining away for a man if he's also exiled from them. Nevertheless, when Lorenz sets off, determined to find Joseph Gallant, the stubborn Emilie follows him, dressed as a boy. She's discovered quickly and the group of three travel to the last rumored location of her father, a place in the Louisiana territory called St. Gabriel. But will they find her father upon their arrival, or more disappointment?

Emilie is the first in The Cajuns series, a beautifully crafted story by Cherie Claire, telling of the heartbreaking and triumphant journey of one of many Acadian families. A fabulous historical romance that will leave any reader wanting to pick up the rest of the series. Thoroughly enjoyable...Well done, Ms. Claire!

After I do is a well written story of a couple trying their best not to give up on their marriage, even when love is fading. It's full of heart wrenching moments and family drama involving three grown siblings, their single mother, and an old wise-cracking grandmother who spits out advice like bullets from a machine gun. It's funny, sad, refreshing, and kept me wanting to read more. I highly recommend this read!

This was a suggested book club read, and a free Amazon download.

A thrilling inspirational journey into the world of Russian history and diving off the Alaskan coast.

Bailey Craig escaped her small town Alaskan upbringing to forget her shameful past and her nickname of "Easy Lay Bay". When the aunt who raised her dies in a plane crash, she's forced to return to the places and faces she wants to forget, but can't. She's found God since her tumultuously rebellious teen-age years, but hasn't managed to forgive herself for hurting the boy she'd always love, Cole McKenna. As sole heir of her aunt's business, the local Trading Post, she must get everything in order so she can sell it and run back to her life in Oregon. Before she can do that, more dead bodies appear, and Bay, with the help of Cole and his boisterous family, begin to unravel the mysteries behind her aunt's death...and others.

The author does a fabulous job of painting an accurate description of Russian history and small town life during an Alaskan summer. Even for an inspirational novel, this well crafted story line is peppered with the tension of mutual attraction and heightened suspense to keep you flipping pages. An enjoyable and interesting read from beginning to its fulfilling ending, which sets the story up for the sequel. This is my first read from this author, but I doubt it's my last. As an author, I'm very picky about the books I read, and finish. This one was a joy!

A highly recommended read, and well done, Ms. Pettrey!

Whether you have ties to a Cajun heritage or not, this riveting peek into the world of mystical dreams, healers and second sight. The story line kept me enthralled from the first paragraph to the very last page. Excellent writing, well-developed characters and plot with a satisfying ending, although it did leave an opening for a sequel . . . which I will be reading. Nice work, Ms. Lawless! I highly recommend this book.
