5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and useful, April 16, 2007
This book is fantastic for intermediate Arabic students because it has a lot of words that you won't find in newspapers or traditional textbooks. The stories are short and have pictures which make them fun. The CD recordings are of excellent quality which aids in pronunciation. I found that when I went to the Middle East, I remembered words from this book much better than from other more traditional reading materials. A great idea and a nice resource. Expensive, but definitely worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, April 16, 2007
Definitely an exquisite magazine of very high quality. In addition to having beautiful pictures and easy to follow full size patterns on high quality paper, the magazine also contains interesting stories about needlework around the world. It's fun to look at even if you don't do needlework.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, April 16, 2007
What a beautiful book. I purchased this book for the illustrations but I like it even more for the writing. There is a short vignette on each page accompanied by an illustration or collages of some of the authors old pictures, postcards, and other items. Although this is a children's book, it's also appealing to adults. For those who know Arabic, the vignettes are all hand-written in Arabic and translated into English so you can pick up new words. Additionally, the author has a couple of very sweet vignettes describing how individuals from different countries perceive the world differently. Definitely a gem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Many words missing, April 16, 2007
This review is from: Using Arabic Synonyms (Paperback)
This book is a fantastic idea and has many useful synonyms. You can look the words up in Arabic or English which saves times. The author also puts each of the synonyms into sentences which is very useful. If you want to use this book to look up words as you read newspapers, novels, or other printed and broadcast media, it's less useful. It seems as though everytime I look up a word, it's not in this dictionary. This book is a good resource....just don't expect it to have most or all of the words you are seeking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful for intermediate students, April 7, 2007
This book is well written and clearly presented. There is a long section that reviews how different words are used in Arabic and provides a lot of information I haven't seen in other "textbooks". The section points out differences between English and Arabic usage which is helpful. The last section of the book focuses on grammar, which provides a useful review. I would recommend this book to someone who already is at a high- intermediate level of proficiency.
