5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book. It may have had its impact., December 28, 2015
This is an awesome book. It was published in 1991. I think many of the ideas in it have been put in practice in the past 20 years. It might be time to publish a follow up. This books contains page after page of environmental factoids and success stories. Highly recommended. This book could serve as a benchmark or environmental scorecard. Look inside, check it out. It is wonderful.

This review is from: KEEN Men's Owyhee Sandal (Apparel)
This is my first pair of Keen shoes. They are AMAZING. Absolutely comfortable. The footbed conforms perfectly and supports the arch of the foot wonderfully.

I usually wear a size 8.5 and based on other reviews I purchased a half size bigger (size 9) and they fit exactly.

I tried Keen H2 and Newports and found the toe cap to be uncomfortable. The toe cap does not bother me at all with the Owyhee shoe/sandal.

I really like them. THANKS KEEN!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great film about a great Pope, February 9, 2015
This is a fabulous documentary on Pope John Paul II and his impact on Poland, the fall of communism and the world at large. I have seen many films on the former Pope. This one is great - historically accurate, educational, emotional and spiritual.

If you like history, economics, sociology, politics, psychology, philosophy, and theology, this film will not disappoint.

It interviews many people who witnessed the events in Poland and the years after. Their testimonies from many perspectives, representing many countries, are presented and interwoven to tell this story. It is really well done.

Particularly moving were the Pope's reflections on his visit to Auschwitz in Poland and his visit to Yad Vashem in Israel where he was reunited with a holocaust survivor whom he helped in the 1940's.

Totus Tuus.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it! The closest electric shave I have ever experienced. As good as a 3 blade manual razor., February 8, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have owned numerous electric razors over the years, Norelco rotary cordless and corded, Remington cordless and corded, Wahl dual foil (only shaver made in the USA), Braun triple foil (Germany). This is my first Panasonic (Japan/China). I researched everything on the market. I was looking for a corded razor in the $25 range. There are none any more. The batteries are the weak link in cordless razors. My prior experience confirmed that corded ones last due to not having a battery. The shaves amongst them all were similar.... micro stubble and difficult to get the neck clean.

THIS PANASONIC is by FAR the closest electric shave I have ever had. As good as a blade on the face. Not perfect on the neck but NONE are.

What sets this one apart: 30 degree angle nano blades, 13,000 oscillations in the motor, Li-ion battery, wet/dry, pop up trimmer. Easy clean up, no costly add on alcohol bath required. The Arc 3 blade system flex and pivots to better conform to your facial contours. The head of the razor is not oversized, which I prefer. Other 4/5 blade electric razors had this as a complaint.

The oscillations in the blade are higher than a Braun (13K vs 10K) at a much lower price point.

Regarding the neck, I have found that by using a 90 degree angle plus a letter "L" motion technique I can get the neck stubble. Changing my technique improved the performance of this razor.

I highly recommend this razor - it is the CLOSEST electric shave I have ever had. I am sold on it. I am now a fan of Panasonic cordless electric razors. (Too bad they do not make a lower cost corded electric in tis style.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Product for the Price, June 1, 2010
+'s - Price Point, Big Display, Remote, Remote control storage slot in monitor, Speakers.
I spend so much time on my pc that I figured I owed it to my eyes to have the largest reasonable display.

I read other reviews. I have an ATI 4290 on-board graphics using the ATI catalyst software.
Out of the box I got my VGA connection to work with out an issue.
I am not a huge sound person so I decided to save desk space and use the built-in speakers and volume on the monitor.
To minimize cables I switched from VGA to HDMI and removed my speakers.

The product works fine (with HD picture and sound) but took a little configuring to balance and effectively use Windows 7, ATI Catalyst, and the Monitor's capabilities.

-'s - The ASUS Quick start documentation is weak. There is major room for improvement here.

Other thoughts -
If you have two video cables plugged in, you will have your computer thinking you have two displays. Windows will autodetect and configure accordingly.

After discovering the multicables issue, I completely removed my vga cable from the PC and rebooted.

I got the same "black border issue" described by other people. I also got an oversized view which meant the computer was giving me an image too big for the monitor.

I fixed the situation:
1 Open the ATI Catalyst Control Center software.
2. Click the 'Graphics' drop-down menu, then click on 'Desktops & Displays'.
3. Then click the small picture of a monitor at the bottom left of the window and click 'Configure'.
4. This will bring you to the 'DTV' options screen. From here you will see the 'Scaling Options' tab which is the 3rd tab from the left.
5. You can click 'Scaling Options' you will see the Underscan/Overscan slider to adjust/eliminate the black borders around the screen.
6. I set my slider to Zero.

I also needed to use the remote control's middle button in the 2nd row to resize the screen to a 16:9 aspect ratio HD picture. Many people are describing symptoms that are indicative of a default 4:3 aspect ratio. Use the remote to switch it for HDMI.

This statue is very nice. It is about 3 feet high and weighs 7 pounds. It is made of heavy grade plastic (resin.) I am more than happy with it. Its features are as nice as a carved or chisled image. She's... beautiful. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. This image is close to the image of the miraculous medal of St. Catherine Laboure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, April 10, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a spectacular documentary on Guadalcanal. It is the 2 disc version of the Timeless Media Group's Guadalcanal - Island of Death Documentary. There is a one disc version which has 9 reviews. This one has the wrong pubisher listed on the Amazon description which is why it might not get the proper attention it deserves.

It is nearly 4 hours (230 minutes) in length and does a specatacular job of telling the story. It contains commentary from 3 different historians and several veterans of the battle. It does a great job of highighting the ships lost in the various naval engagements. It does a nice job of comparing the aircraft involved. It uses computer animated maps to show troop movements for the major battles.

Here are the chapters on the two discs.

DISC 1
day of infamy* (does not appear on the one disc version of this video)
the rising sun* (does not appear on the one disc version of this video)
the coral sea* (does not appear on the one disc version of this video)
midway* (does not appear on the one disc version of this video)
pestilence
watchtower
first offensive
battle of savo island
first days ashore
the tenaru
battle for the eastern solomons
boredom and fear
battle of Edson's ridge
loss of the wasp* (does not appear on the one disc version of this video)

DISC 2
reinforcement and reassessment* (does not appear on the one disc version of this video)
matanikau river actions
battle of cape esperance
bombardment
battle for Henderson field
battle of the santa cruz islands (carrier hornet gets sunk here)
point cruz & koli point
naval battle of guadalcanal
2nd naval battle of guadalcanal
the final push

There is an extra feature on the Disc 2. A video timeline of parallel military actions that occurred during the same time frame as guadacanal. These is include North Africa(Tobruk and El Alamein) and Russian front (Rostov and Stalingrad.)

I am completely impressed by this documentary. Timeless media group has some specatacular offerings, this one is no exception. I hope they continue to build on this degree of quality on all their productions.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good overview - differs from other titles in the series, February 26, 2010
I learned a lot from this dvd. It is roughly 1 hour 38 minutes. It covers not a single battle but a series of large and small battles that comprised the Mediterranean campaign. It is an overview of a campaign rather than a battle within a campaign. It is almost too grand in scope.

It is different from the other battlefield titles that I have seen in that it does NOT follow the expected format. The expected section breaks on the leaders, weapons, prelude to battle, aftermath, etc. that are the hallmark structure for the battlefield series is not followed. This format could not be used when covering a campaign vs. a single battle. Still, I found myself missing the profiles of the various key armaments.

Instead you are given an overview of the major battles that took place in and around the Mediterranean from 1940 - 1943. It is good material -but broad in scope and somewhat undetailed. In each battle, the leaders are mentioned but not truly profiled.

The DVD uses many of the same images throughout the broadcast... italian planes flying overhead, british 8th army digging in, the scenes are representative of the actual events but are used 2-4 times in the program. It is kind of redundant and causes the viewer to lose interest.

So although I respect the efforts of those who put this documentary together, I had some dissappointment when it deviated from the expected format of coverage. From this point of view, the program doesn't really feel like other titles in the series.

Still, as someone who is interested in the topic, you certainly won't be disappointed with what the show presents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great History for the price, February 6, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: World War II in Color (DVD)
I really enjoyed these color films of WWII from the Timeless Media Group.

Among those included that really stand out:

The Memphis Belle (Famous B-17 Bomber, European Theater)
The Fighting Lady (aircraft carrier footage, pacific theater)
Eyewitness to war (color footage, from a war correspondent, European theater)

The other included films are also good. The three above alone are worth the price of this set.

You should note that this is not a "definitive collection" of color video from WWII. Nor does it cover the entire war. Still, it offers a color glimpse into a history so often portrayed in Black and White. In color, the images are more real, the violence and destruction more real...something that should not be trivialized.

You won't regret this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Battlefield - Kursk, a good overview, February 6, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Kursk is one of the largest, if not the largest battle ever fought. 2,000,000 men, 6000 tanks, 1000's of aircraft.

The defenses around Kursk were 50 miles deep! This was the last major German offensive on the Russian front. It was fought in July 1943.

I learned quite a bit from the video. However, given the scale of the battle much more could have been - should have been presented. The air battles over Kursk lacked depth. The nature of the Russian defense could have been covered in greater detail. Very little is said of the logisitics of moving that many men and tanks and provisions to the battle. As I mentioned in the title, for a battle of this scale - 96 minutes gives a good overview but leaves the viewer wanting more information.

The Ferdinand Porsche-designed Elefant tank destroyer is featured with all its strengths and weaknesses. The epic tank-to-tank engagement at Prokhorovka is featured. The leaders and generals and order of battle and key weapons are featured. Several key generals' profiles are quite interesting. Zhukov, Konev, Rokosovsky, Von Manstein, Guderian, Model and a host of others are named. I still can't figure out if Hoth was intending to lead his tanks through the minefield.

The battlefield series is noted for its in-depth analysis and program structure. This video follows the same pattern as established in the Battlefield series. The narration in this episode seems less intense than others in the series. It also seems to lack the opening introduction and theme music which set the tone for the predecessors in the series.

Despite my criticisms, if you enjoy the series you will enjoy this edition on Kursk.
