5.0 out of 5 stars A mystical, magical ride, July 1, 2016
I loved the content of this book—vivid, mystical contemplations that really took me to another time and place. Whether for guided meditation, celebrating the moon cycle, or deep relaxation, The Oracle of Luna creates a magical space to explore the divine femininity. I really enjoyed learning about the moon phases and goddesses too. The author's mastery of the subject matter is profound, yet she doesn't get too esoteric and lose you in the process. The book has an inclusive vibe and is broken out in a way that makes it easy to follow and understand—this way you don't need to be a studied expert to benefit fully from the meditations. It's Ms. Engels first book and I hope there are more to come!

1.0 out of 5 stars where was the word-whacker?, December 31, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Picasso: A Biography (Paperback)
In a nutshell: this book needed an editor. Any kind of life arc was lost in a barrage of factoids and asides that made having a satisfying read impossible. Add to that length--of the book and of the sentences--and it felt like I was trudging through a quagmire of unassociated words. Also, by speaking to so many specific works of art in such detail within the main text (I want to guess half the book was dedicated to this?), Picasso's fascinating story was lost even more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delish!, November 24, 2007
Wow! I'm surprised that other reviewers found this book to be so gossipy. I enjoyed the little bits of personal info included throughout...helped bring it all to life for me. 'Arugula' is really well written...so dense with information yet doesn't get pedantic. One reason for this is Kamp's use of footnotes at the bottom of many pages with interesting asides. I work in the culinary arena and am somewhat familiar with our food heritage but this book took my knowledge to a more comprehensive level and entertained me in the process. (I'm still wondering how he researched this bad boy...no easy task!) Anyway, loved the book and highly recommend it...a very tasty read.
