5.0 out of 5 stars MIND BLOWING!, October 11, 2010

This review is from: Glimpses of Eternity (Hardcover)
Though he says his opinions have not changed, in recent years, Dr. Moody has appeared to me increasingly careful not to overstate the implications of the near death experience, drawing no final conclusions, and regarding these experiences as absolute proof of nothing. In my opinion, this prudence is a fine example of critical thinking wed to intellectual integrity, and has done nothing except reinforce his credibility as a researcher. That is why I believe he is sincere and his logic is sound when he concludes that the accounts of shared death experiences presented in this book represent the best evidence we have to date for the continuation of consciousness after death. In my opinion, unlike many individual near death experiences, the shared death experiences of many highly credible individuals found in this book are completely inexplicable in materialistic terms. Honestly, my mind is boggled by this information! Read the book and see if you can think of a strictly physical explanation for this phenomenon. My own conclusion is that at best, this is the most compelling evidence gathered thus far for consciousness functioning independently of the body, and at worst, it's evidence for telepathy. Think about that! Excellent job, Raymond Moody and Paul Perry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Major Contribution to the Study of Consciousness and NDE, October 10, 2010

Once again, Chris Carter has done a masterful job of presenting us with a variety of phenomena that cannot be fully explained by a strictly reductionist theory of mind. Chris also makes the very important distinction between the fair questions raised by the metaphysically neutral scientist examining the phenomena, and the objections put forward by the dogmatic materialist, which are predicated on a metaphysical (not scientific) assumption that only matter is real. In doing so, a false dichotomy is eliminated, and one realizes that one need not be unscientific or religious to seriously consider the possibility of the continuation of consciousness postmortem. In fact, if one examines the full breadth of the evidence and arguments presented in this book, I would think one could hardly avoid such considerations. In my opinion, Science and the Near Death Experience is a major contribution to the field of consciousness research, and an absolute must read for all who have a serious interest in the NDE, the mind and the very nature of reality. Excellent!
