As a serial entrepreneur who has raised venture capital numerous times, a murder-mystery written around the interworking of venture capital, entrepreneurs, etc was something I had to read. In full-disclosure, I had the pleasure of working with Avi in one of my startups, where he was on my board as an investor. I've known him as a great businessman, incredible story teller (as well as knowing every joke ever told), doting husband, wonderful father and friend. But I had no idea he also had the talent of bringing stories to life on paper. This was a fantastic read that kept me engaged, and for more than one night staying up way too late for "just one more chapter:" For anyone who loves a good mystery, buy this book. For anyone who has ever been around startups, buy this book. And Avi, please let me know when your next book is ready. I'm ready to buy!

1.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Edition flawed!, July 2, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I loved Traction and was looking forward to reading this. HOWEVER, the Kindle version has incredibly small print. I use the Kindle app on the iPad daily, and am a voracious reader. I've tweaked every setting I can to make the print larger to no avail - even going to the large print settings. Just checked, and Traction does not have this problem. Why does Get A Grip? Is this a technical issue that can be fixed?

Giving this a "1" star with an apology to the author.....will be glad to correct this when and if it is corrected. It's not the content -- it's the production.

Grabbing the reading glasses to try and slog through.

A rare view of one of the greatest leaders ever during a major crisis. Lincoln's desire and ability to put personal feelings aside and build a cabinet with former "enemies" is amazing as is his uncanny ability to make hard decisions. A great historical book, but also a leadership book as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking for today's marketing and sales pros, May 23, 2012

"A marketing demand generation professional's job is no longer to find buyers, it is to help buyers find you". This quote is taken from what I feel is the strongest chapter in this book titled "Seed Nuturing". Fernandez has given the reader great material for thinking through Revenue as a function, and how to create a process around creating revenue. Fernandez has also properly stayed away from promoting his own company's solution in the book, which I applaud him for.

All in all, this book is one for CEOs, CMOs, CROs, head of sales and anyone tasked with demand generation within a company. My copy is earmarked with many notes and highlights, and I will be taking a second read of this in the days ahead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read for anyone trying to understand the fuss over Google+, March 7, 2012
I reviewed an early edition of this book before it went to press, and was impressed by Guy's writing and ability to translate Google+ for the masses who perhaps don't know how to get started using this tool. The book is a concise and clear overview of what G+ is, why it matters, and how someone can begin using it immediately. Highly recommended for someone new to Google+ who needs an easy-to-read book to jump start their efforts.

Google+ for Business: How Google's Social Network Changes Everything
Google+ for Business: How Google's Social Network Changes Everything
by Chris Brogan
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for those diving into Google+, January 25, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For anyone looking to understand Google+ and how to better use it in business, I highly recommend Chris' book. As Chris has pointed out, the attractiveness of Google+ is "the prospect of being able to deliver highly relevant content that is tailored specifically to consumers." Google+ is a platform which everyone in marketing cannot afford to ignore. For instance, since this book was written, Google has announced additional changes to their entire architecture which affects how search results consumers see when using Google search are impacted by content, "+1" and other aspects of the Google+ platform. Anyone today trying to make sure their content (blogs, articles, etc) are being found through Google search, as well as proactively pushed to those with an interest, needs to understand how Google+ is forever changing the world of search and content.

Chris provides an excellent starting point around use of Google+. He helps users understand what Google+ is, and how to best get involved. It's a great place to dive in and begin exploring Google+.

Price: $11.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding view of 1930s Berlin and the side of Hitler, August 30, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A fascinating work covering US ambassador Dodd and his family in Berlin in the 1930s as Hitler and Nazi Germany rose to power. While non-fiction, Larson's writing reads like a novel. Highly recommended for anyone who loves history and wants to gain new perspectives on Berlin during the rise of Hitler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Critical reading for anyone in marketing today, August 3, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have known Marshall for almost a year now, and had the privilege of meeting with him while he was writing this book to share my thoughts and experiences. As I've written already about the book "It's not enough just to listen to or monitor online voices anymore. The challenge of separating the influential signals from noise in the cacophony of voices across social and online communities is too hard to do manually or with traditional monitoring tools. Sponder's book makes compelling arguments for why listening intelligence matters and why marketing forevermore is becoming a blur of science and art, with measurement, analytics, and marketing intelligence having an increasingly critical role within the CMO's suite and boardroom."

I strongly recommend this book for anyone looking for a practical / tactical guide to critical area of analytics.

And if you are marketing, take Marshall's words to heart "Marketing [will take over] PR, and analytics will take over both" and read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars For anyone trying to understand Facebook and how it can change your marketing efforts, buy and read this book, June 2, 2011
I responded to a request from the author to review this book. And I am really glad I did.

I, like most marketing professionals honest enough to admit it, am constantly trying to better understand how to use new platforms like Facebook, Twitter and other "social" networks in marketing. While I had heard some of what is covered in this book before, there is a lot I had not, and Dave's writing style is easy to digest and learn from as I went through the book.

Highlights for me were the sections on:

"Likes are more important than links" and how a strong Facebook strategy can drive a lot of traffic and attention to your core messages. Ten years ago, it was all about building a web site, optimizing for SEO and driving cross linkages. Dave makes some great arguments about how a holistic approach to Facebook can drive far more reception and attention to your core marketing efforts today. Interesting and thought-provoking.

"The Brilliance of the Facebook News Feed" and the pages on how Edgerank works to drive notice of your messages and how it all works together around likes, time of day, etc, etc. Very clear explanation of how Facebook algorithms work, and what this means to a marketing pro. These few pages are must reads!

And the areas around creating your company's own Facebook presence; what works and what doesn't; etc are all thought-provoking and already causing some discussions inside our own company about our strategy for Facebook and how we should (and should NOT) use this as part of our overall efforts.

Great book. Well written. Must have for anyone trying to navigate Facebook and understand how to better apply it in the marketing mix. I'm sharing three more copies with others on my team.

5.0 out of 5 stars Precommerce should be required reading for all, March 15, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I met the author of this book at the South By Southwest conference in Austin yesterday, and received a copy of the book as well. I've been reading it since yesterday and wanted to share an early endorsement. If you are in sales, marketing, management or otherwise care about your company and its survival, buy this book and begin to study it. Precommerce defines in very clear terms the role customers now have in making decisions about your products, people, company and brand. And how companies must acknowledge that traditional marketing (eg: the 4Ps) are now virtually obsolete in a world where customers and potential customers can interact directly and in communities across the web often without ever visiting your corporate web site, reading your sales materials, etc.

Buy this book. Read it. Discuss it. Precommerce should become a new term in business in order to understand what customers are doing today BEFORE they buy -- or make the decision not to.
