I have been following this book on its Facebook page and rushed out and bought a copy first thing today when it was released. I thought I would read it over several days but literally could not put it down until I finished it. The book was just great and tells the story of an Army platoon that saw extensive combat in Afghanistan over a 16 month deployment. The book is told from the perspective of a young infantry platoon leader in his first command role. The reader is then swept along for quite a ride as Sean Parnell tells the story of his heroic men during their combat tour. Unlike most military books this book not only includes plenty of action but you get to see the inner conflict as the platoon leader learns to cope with the harsh realities of war. I experienced so many emotions; panic when thrust into combat the first time, sadness and despair over personal loss but also the absolute exhilaration from victory and living to fight another day. This book is a real eye opener as to what our young men are up against as they fight the Taliban and their allies in Pakistan. Read this book and remember to thank a veteran for their service!
