To be fair, I am using to feed into a powered StarTech KVM (StarTech.com 2 Port High Resolution USB DVI Dual Link KVM Switch with Audio). However, I haven't seen any issues with the PC side (the other side of the KVM). I haven't needed to reset the KVM - only this adapter from my Mac Mini (mid-2011).
I've seen the snow issues after switching the KVM to the Mac side and also after the Mac puts the display to sleep (with no KVM switching).
Also, while I get that this is a digital only converter - there would be no analog output to the 4 pins that surround the spade - by using a DVI-D only connector, it simply prevents the use of a DVI-I cable. So if you have a DVI-I cable, you won't be able to use it, even though it's a functional superset of the DVI-D cable.
Update: After a couple weeks of use, I have to comment on another annoying "feature". When the Mac puts the display to sleep, this converter starts running a test pattern - flashing the screen red, green, gray, etc. Very annoying - and probably not great for the monitor either. I've changed the Mac to never put the monitor to sleep, use a black screen saver, and I manually turn the monitor off (to kill the backlight). Lowering to 1 star.
