I wanted to test how well the Coffee Gator metal filter filtered the sludge you get from a typical french press. What I did was put the Coffee Gator metal filter on top of another metal filter and poured my french press coffee through both. The other metal filter has a tighter and finer mesh and was able to filter out mud/sludge that the Coffee Gator metal filter let through.
See attached picture. The Coffee Gator metal filter is NOT very good at filtering, and the mesh isn't fine enough. You can almost see through it compared to the other metal filter in my photo, which has a much tighter, finer mesh that captures sludge that the Coffee Gator filter lets through.

Metal filter does horrible job at filtering
