The incredible spirit, love of family and hardships the primary family faced are inspiring. This book touched every emotion in me. You do not have to be Jewish to appreciate the story., just a caring human being. I found the updates on the progress of the war educational and they also give the reader an understanding why the characters lives and struggles are changing and adapting. The one thing I didn't like is the multiple characters in the book. The mothers & fathers, then the sons and daughters, then the marriages and the babies that followed. I had to concentrate to keep them all straight. The author does a good job of continually updating the characters. I do believe that the story could have had the same impact without being so lengthy. It is a heartwrenching, heartwarming read and I recommend.
