This review is from: Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy (Kindle Edition)
I ordered this book because the blurb on line looked like something that would help me with my journey. I am a widow of 6 months, my husband passed of a fast heart attack. I too, found him in bed and administered CPR to no avail. While I identified with the steps of the author, I could not relate to her presentation. For many of us of limited resources, the journey is quite different. I do not know how I would have afforded to bring his body home from a vacation in Mexico, his graveside service was $12,000, which will be paid off in 10 years. I certainly cannot take a lot of time from work, or fall asleep at a meeting. I appreciate that she has worked hard, but her journey is not even close to what many of us have, we will loose our home, and our families cannot just come out for a month, we have to take care of our own children. Therapy is expensive. I would venture she did not have to worry about her family's health insurance, many of us do. My husband worked for a major retailer and his company cut off spouse/family insurance 24 hours after he died. I am hopeful that one day we will all have some peace, but most of us are a long way away...

Thanks for your review. I still plan to read this book, but perhaps with better expectations.
By the way, there is at least one Facebook group of folks whose experience economically is much closer to yours (and mine) than to Sandberg's. Maybe we should write our own book. Ha, in our copious free time!

Cellodiva, how I wish I knew your first name so I could call you by it. My heart goes out to you for your raw yet beautiful commentary. I am going to order this book today, but I think your comments have so much validity and value. Your husband's company's actions to cut off your insurance within 24 hours was cruel and inhumane. I also think there are those in the funeral industry who tragically take terrible advantage of grieving widows/widowers/children/family at their moment of worst vulnerability by overcharging them for a funeral they cannot afford when affordable arrangements can be had through smaller, more caring and compassionate mortuaries, but it does take some work to find them, and this is best done in advance of need. My brothers and I were fortunate to find a wonderful mortuary when our father passed away 15 years ago, and then able to make arrangements ahead with the successor business (took some research!) in advance for our mom--made all the difference in the world. I hope you will take a second look for what good you can tuck away in your heart from Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant's book, and also look for resources in your community who can provide compassionate support to you--they are there, I promise! I am a therapist in Nevada, but I was so touched by your story that if I lived in New Jersey I would gladly help you with a few therapy sessions at no charge to get you beyond where you are and help you find gratitude and joy again. Thank you for writing. God bless you on your journey. Don't forget to give "Option B" a second, "optimistic", look.

Sorry to hear of your great lose. I was never married, but I have struggled with job loss in teaching for many years. Perhaps it was my own fault, but I got lost along the way and I am now 75 with little to show. BUT as for the book, which I have not read, I welcome it.

The reason is that loss is loss. We all struggle in life. It might be from tragedy, or in my case, my own stupidy and confusion.
I think what the authors are trying to say is in the title: OPTION B. It is to try to look in other directions, to experiment and work on RESILIENCE, on way or the other, and not wait for perfect situations to come along. THANKS Harry www.SavingSchools.org

Cellodiva, I'm in the same boat as you to some extent I think. (no health insurance, will have to sell the home, family all over the country). My husband died in October 2016 suddenly and unexpectedly from a fatal arrhythmia. He was 59. I've ordered the book in hopes that it contains something that will help me and my family deal with our loss. I'll update this reply and let you know.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Having the financial and health worries on top of the devastating death of your husband is cruel. My partner of over 30 years just died of an apparent heart attack; I found him when I returned from work that night. So I and many others are on this same journey with you.

Geeky guy, Cellodiva has asked below what is the Facebook group you refer to in your comment? It would be great if you could please provide that information, as many of us who have commented here might like to know the answer. Thanks!
