There is only one reason you buy these; you have a mercedes diesel. When you go for your oil change, I hope your shop has these in stock, my experience is that usually they do not, and the filter change is often approached by shop personnel as somewhat intimidating-a truck sized canister under the hood. You should alway have TWO of these in case the oil change is botched, which can be quite often on older mercedes models where the shop simply cannot grasp the fact that normal vehicle oil is NOT to be put into a diesel engine and the drain plug on the engine might also look like its been under attack by metal rats. I remember in one day, leaving shop A after they put in the wrong oil, going to shop B to drain out the new oil, putting in the 2nd filter, and then watching shop B do it again after overfilling the engine. Better yet, get the special hazet tool for the drain plug, do your own oil changes. Have fun.
