This review is from: Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Campaign (Kindle Edition)
I generally don't read this sort of book but I thought this one would be interesting as 2016 was one of the few elections with a 'twist' ending. Also what made this book interesting was that it was written by people who were clearly enamored of their subject and had expected to write a coronation story about her, having previously written 'HRC' - a pre-campaign book singing her praises.
To be fair to the authors, they lay the blame for her loss squarely on her. They sort of feel bad about it but their close access makes it obvious to them and they are objective enough to report it. The other main person held responsible is campaign manager Robby Mooks, who is so enamored with 'analytics' that he can't see the forest for the trees. The canary in the coal mine is Bill Clinton, who senses that his wife and her campaign are not connecting with the white working class, but is ignored by the team who consider him washed-up and out of date.
It would have been nice to have a book that also gave the story from the Trump side, but as these reporters didn't have that sort of access there, I am glad that they didn't try to shoehorn it in. That would have to be the subject of a different book.
I do notice a number of one star reviewers who seem to be Trump supporters. I really don't understand why as this book does not present a flattering view of Hillary Clinton at all and Trump himself is only seen through the eyes of the Clinton campaign and of course they don't think highly of him.
Overall, it's a book about entitlement, hubris and ambition for the sake of ambition. I very much enjoyed it.

The one star supposed "Trump supporters" taking the book down are probably posers -- Hillary supporters playing game, posing as Trumpers, all trying to take the book down, discredit it, etc. The truth hurts!

I haven't read it yet, but what you said about Hillary's team ignoring Bill is absolutely hilarious. I'm no fan of Bill Clinton, but I'm pretty sure I'd listen to him if I was running for something political and he offered his advice. Even if it was dogcatcher lol. John Kerry had to learn that lesson too in 2004.. They said Bill called him up and told him that he should shut up about Vietnam if he wanted to win the election - and the rest is history lol. It just shows how utterly arrogant Hillary is IMO. Good review though, thanks.

No follower dares to openly admit what she is really like? Even after her political demise, the risk of personal retribution from the Clinton thugs must be terrifying. Lock her up indeed. As someone once said.

Its easy to understand. The book is written entirely from the perspective of people who believed in and supported Hilary Clinton. Some people come to this book expecting it to be neutral or to cover the entire campaign. Those people are disappointed. There are also things in the book that go too far. At the start of the book, they try to pretend that she was universally popular after being secretary of state. The say she had approval ratings which neared 70%. That is neither real nor honest. She always had big negatives and she was never the sort of universally popular figure that book tries to make her.

>>The canary in the coal mine is Bill Clinton, who senses that his wife and her campaign are not connecting with the white working class, but is ignored by the team who consider him washed-up and out of date.

That isn't fair. It wasn't the team that was ignoring him. It was Hillary Clinton. Bill Clinton had better access to Hillary than anyone who worked on her campaign aside from Huma Abedin. It was her campaign and her decision. She decided not to listen to him. In her mind, white people had betrayed her in 2008 when they voted for Obama rather than her. In her own mind, she had run a campaign in 2008 directed at the white working class and had lost because of it. Also, if she were able to defend herself, she would certainly explain that Bernie Sanders made the same appeal to white men that she made in 2008 and LOST in 2016.

In her mind and the minds of the people politically close to her, Bill Clinton was living in the past. The Democratic party of today is not the party of 1992. The Democratic party is a predominantly African American and Latino party that wants social justice for all rather than rewards for the few. The "Bro" political culture of Bill Clinton and Bernie Sanders can't win anymore. The problem of America is one of racism and poverty. Running a campaign based on promises of a program of welfare for white men would never have worked in 2016.

It always hurts somewhat to face the truth, but useful in the long run. thanks for a good and realistic review. Now I'll go to buy it.

You can choose your own books, and at barnesandnoble.com, too. It's available for $17.45 and, if you order $25 or more, you can have it shipped for free. You're still free to choose at B&N.

Agree - whatever else you might think of Bill Clinton, you can't deny that he has terrific political instincts, instincts which his wife seems to be totally lacking.

You're correct, these writers were no fans of President Trump, referring to him as the "former Reality TV Star," (their caps, not mine.) One of the things I found most astounding was the point about Hillary being so angry with her campaign staff because they couldn't come up with a valid reason to promote why she was running for President. Even they were disconcerted by her lack of connection with we, "the little people."
